According to the service manual I have it looks like quite a bit of work, it seems to recommend removing the gearbox to do it.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that you might just be able to get away with just dropping the gearbox down rather than removing it though. I did it the other week on my 5 speed WRX and it was done in about 10 mins but there was easy access to the switch on the side of the box. Looking at the diagram I have the switch on a 6 speed appears to be on top of the box rather than the side. |

Can be done with gearbox in situ, I just did one on my spec C!

pretty sure its the green one iv marked for neutral position and red is reverse lights,
a little bit more tricky on the 6sp compared to the 5sp but can be done in situ.

i got a jdm so exhaust is different but i would drop exhaust off cat back (i didnt but feel it would give more access space), i had front on axle stands undo gearbox mounts pull box down a bit, lay with feet under front bumper and reach up from the back over the prop shaft and rear diff. its tight but can be done. hope that helps to do it up i done as much by hand finished off with a spanner doesnt need much and remember to plug it back in when done.
