Just had our first powercut this morning!

Waterbutts are nice and full

More rain to come and yet the water companies want to charge us all more! Perhaps they should have spent a little more on the infrastructure over the years! I guess we should all feel happy for them being able to show huge profits during these difficult times?


Yep!! Cranky this morning (even though I managed to have a nice milky coffee made on the gas hob )

We had a bloody power cut too, at home and work.

The work one wiped a months worth of work files off of the system that were not backed up (not happy about that )

Back on now, but picking up the fall out from it.

Water, don't get me started Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I pay on a meter anyway, but still I can't use a ****ing hose, yet they say implementing meters as a standard will alleviate the hosepipe ban problems Aaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Ha ha! The weather always has an impact on everyone's mood!

Saw it in the news that they may lift the Bans before Autumn unless there's a 'Saharan twist' in the weather over the summer, which coincides with the end of the Olympics too.... how convenient!!

Had power cuts at work here in Chelwood Gate too. Good thing i've got some big ass UPS's and a generator to keep my IT infrastructure running (and the whinging users at bay!)

It fookin sucks

Whilst we are having a moan, feckin Vodafone , **** e bag useless twats ahhhhhhhhhh
Had no signal in UckfieldEast for 4 days now.
Have been on the Vodafone forum and for 3 days all the support team would say is we have no faults , please reboot your phone.
Bare in mind that there were dozens of people in TN22 posting the same problem.
They have now said oh yes we have an issue which will be looked at but we have no timescale for repair.

My mum and her mates had exactly the same problem in Brighton last week - no signal and no fault as far as vodafone were concerned. When she did try rebooting her phone it reset everything to the factory default settings and appeared to have wiped all her info/pics/ringtones - it was only when I took the battery, sim and sd card out that it 'remembered' everything and got a signal back.

Might be worth trying if you're still having problems.

The weirdest thing was that Steve called me while I was at mum's house and my ringtone had also reset to default... I'm not even on vodafone!

I know exactly how you feel and to be honest I completely agree with you even though I work for the water company. I get it in the neck all the time since the hose pipe ban and customers feel the need to have a rant as soon as they see me saying virtually the same as you.

But I do remind them that I also have to pay for water etc etc and also doing detailing in my spare time the hose pipe ban is a pain in the arse. I've had to buy a water butt too, link it up, buy filters, hose for the pressure washer etc needless to say it goes down like a lead balloon and they storm off in a huff lol

And I completely agree that if your on a meter you pay for what you use so why cant you use a hose pipe?

The thing is people only know and believe what they read and see in the papers and on on the news and that's where the problem lies. Not the whole story and reason is told so its automatically perceived its completely the water companies fault.

Yes prices are going up and people moan about the infrastructure etc but the easiest way to put it would be people want more for less. What hasn't been reported or what limited information has been given out is the fact that now every time the water company does a job ( in Sutton and east Surrey anyway ) weather it be a meter change, survey or new supply to new houses the company gets a charge from the highways agency, everything from the first piece of paper for an initial survey to the last sighning off sheet with all the work in between gets a separate charge. Another reason is new housing, Victorian pipes find it difficult to cope with the demand from customers so there's gonna come a point where they need to be replaced. Also another big factor is the usual government input, they want their fair share so a lot goes to them too.

I do agree with water meters though, usually if you change to a meter it works out cheaper so you only pay for what you use as opposed to water rates where it used to be based on the band of your property. Also there are more benefits to meters in more ways than one lol

Your answer still says it all though! If they had spent on the infrastructure over the years, there would be less of a problem today. Everyone knows that in certain areas there is a huge demand due to an increased housing development but! The water companies have known for some time this was coming!

What is annoying is that these companies and it's not just the water! Have recorded huge yearly figures whereby they have neglected a failing infrastructure and increase in demand! They increase bills to cover the necessary demand and improvement that should have been done as an ongoing concern! And still post huge figures at the end of the year...

I hear what Andy says but The Rail Network, Electric, Gas, Water and Underground authorities have never been monitored properly.

Some of my clients are in the aforementioned and I jump with joy when any of them phone as any job is near on a license to print money !


There funding is HUGE but often directed up the wrong avenues.

70% of jobs that we are awarded involves night work. They normally want 4 guys and you can charge £ 500 - 600 per man per night and know you will be awarded the job.

Over 50% of these instances results in nothing to do as nothing has been arranged. My guys are then told to go home. The following week they phone again & ask for 4 men. Same thing happens.
Third week they phone again and this time some holes get diamond drilled.

I invoice for 6 K and they pay, no questions asked.

On rates, the holes drilled work out at £700. They paid £6000.00 for them.


This happens to EVERY contractor and many millions are wasted.
It's this money that should be directed to mains & water pipe leakage (which is a massive problem).

Like I mentioned, nothing is monitored properly and I've yet to meet a highly ranked member of staff that gives a fukc.

If you need to use water as part of a business then it should be ok to use a hose pipe, it's only domestic properties that the ban mainly covers

I do agree with you mate I was just saying its not entirely the companies fault. But there is soo much wasted money going places I can see why customers / staff get annoyed and just don't really care.
