New Tyres
Now that the car is back on the road it's time to consider getting the wheels refurbed and the colour changed. Makes sense to remove the budget tyres and replace them at the same time.
Wheels: Rota Grid Drifts 18" x 9.5, ET38, 5 x 100 Current Tyre Size: 235/40/ZR18 Is 235 a good size tyre for these wheels? The wheels are very easy to damage if kerbed as the rim sticks out further than the tyre! Would a wider 245 or 255 fit the car without rubbing? I've done a tyre make thread before and quite like the Vredestein for price/performance, but feel free to suggest others I'm leaning towards an anthracite colour (similar to StevePPP) as white is awful to keep clean I've managed to do a great deal with 1st for alloys so all this should be happening fairly soon. Opinions and suggestions very welcome |

I couldn't tell you if a 245 or 255 would rub but i'd probably want to go 245 on a 9.5 wheel - not personally a fan of the stretched look.
I might be biased but blue/gunmetal is always a good look I had mine refurbed at WheelWorksUK in Crawley last summer (£55+vat per corner). Very pleased with the result - I said they were going on a car used for shows and I wanted the backs as good as the fronts rather than just a quick blowover the rear and they did a cracking job http://www.southeastscoobies.co.uk/v...ps8fcf4222.jpg |

That's the pic I showed Liz when we were talking about colours I need to find out if the 245 will fit as that was the size I preferred as I'm also not keen on the stretched look!

It would match the blue/grey look of the front grill and reverse scoop

Tyre wise Eagle F1 asymmetrics are very good,
better rated than the vredestiens also.. http://www.camskill.co.uk/m61b0s329p..._Noise%3A_70dB

245/40/18 fit on mine, I have literally a fag paper gap between the coilover and tyre on the fronts, although my offset on those particular rims is quite different to yours being ET55 and 8.5j
If you want I could lend you a pair of Dunlop 245/40/18 tyres from the shed for you to try? *test fit one* don't drive anywhere on a non matched set of tyres! I have a pair of eagle F1's and a pair of Dunlop sports in that size.. I removed from my current track wheels before fitting 888's (Neither brand rubbed on front or back) I will be re-using the EagleF1 245/40/18's when the current 225s reach end of life or I might be persuaded to part with them for the right money, (they are pretty much brand new have covered a couple of hundred miles) Also have some 225/40/18 eagle F1's sat in the shed with a couple of mm tread left if they are of any use to anyone.

OK, I've decided to stay with the current size 235/40 and just ordered a set of
Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta - 235/40 R18 95Y XL - £84.89 each inc free delivery from Tyreleader Seems to be a good price (Camskill said they couldn't match it.) |

They're good tyres
The only thing i'd say is give them a good few hundred miles running in. Mine were a bit greasy at first and I know BigE didn't like the feel of them when new - I guess they take a while for the moulding agents (or whatever they use on them) to scrub off. After that, they do a great job Good price too. |
