Default Engine oil light

Ok so I usually use my car everyday at some point but I left it for a day then took it out to the shops this evening. When I started it the oil light came on really faint but could see it was on. I immediately turned car of and checked the oil, oil was low so drove 2 mins to ASDA and bought some castrol gtx 10/40 and when I went to top it up in the car park the level was fine, didn't need to top it up. I let the car idle to warm up then checked again and it was fine. Wonder what happend there?

You need to check the oil on the flat and I always allow at least 10 mins for it to drain back to the sump before checking.

Cheers blue bug eye, the car was on the road outside my house which is completely flat and the car hadn't been driven just over a day, could just be the fact it was relatively cold last night and where it's used to being driven every day. I have no idea but it's fine now

if it was only very faint it sounds more like a bad connection possibly water ingress rather than a low oil level??
