Default Tempest Rally 2015

Last weekend Bandit and I battled the elements to check out the annual Tempest rally in Aldershot. The weather was pretty grim in the morning, but the sun did make a very brief appearance at the end of the day (better late than never!).

The timetable for this year’s rally wasn’t as good as previous years, so we elected to stay on the Warren stage for the day. Coupled with the conditions I didn’t get that many photos, but here are a few that came out OK…

There were two Land Rover classes running this year; one for the Armed Forces Land Rovers and another one make Defender 90 class. Some of the Defender 90 drivers were actually pretty quick and keeping up with the faster 4WD entries.

Overall victory went to Robert Swann and Darren Garrod, who won the rally for the third time in a row. Last year they did it in an Impreza WRC, this year in a Fiesta R5.

A wet but decent way to wrap up the 2015 motorsport season. Roll on 2016…

Great photos mate. As you probably guessed, i didn't make it to Wales today

But probably not a bad thing with the amber weather warning for today either, 150mm of rain forecast today for the stages which could cause the crews and spectators a nightmare. Most spectators end up parking in the ditches of the side of the forest roads so flooding could be a problem.... hope its not as bad as they're forecasting but I'm glad i didn't bother driving 4 hours only to get soaked all day!

Haha! I guessed as much! Have to say I really fancied going... right up to the point when it started pissing down this morning! The Tempest was bad enough last weekend, I imagine similar conditions in Wales will be a lot more unpleasant!

I'd highly recommend the Tempest, especially as it's on the doorstep!

Glad to hear you are one of the few who venture that far up the hill: can't believe how many people don't bother with the rally stage, its the best bit of the FoS!
