Makes me sick really, my brothers in the army been in for nearly 11 years and my mum works for the MOD, she's been told her job will be going in the next 18months and my brothers job is never really safe.hopefully you will keep your job mate and the government will see sense that all these cut backs isn't a good idea.

It seems perverse to me that the strategy seems to be to rely on reservists rather than professional soldiers.

Economically it makes sense, but national security and foreign policy shouldn't be all about balancing the books in my humble opinion.

Hope it works out for you either way.

Hope things work out for you Scotty. It's not a nice position to be in, knowing you are at risk but not knowing the final outcome. I have been in the same situation 3 times in the last two years....it doesn't do much for your stress levels...but I suppose you have the advantage of being able to shoot at a few things......
If it goes bad for you and you want to come back this way give me a shout as ex-army may be of use with some of the work we have just taken on.

Sorry to hear this. Think it's disgusting the way you and your comrades are treated personally. Hope it all works out for you.

37 more days to go until I find out if it's a yes or no I am hoping it is a yes as my wife is in canterbury on holiday seeing friends and her old work and she just sent me a text saying they want her back and Mr Tarry is friends with a haulage firm and they are looking for a driver with a basic starting wage of £30,000 per year so I could be coming back down everyone THEY BETTER GIVE ME MY REDUNDANCY

Are you able to influence the decision, i.e. do you still get your payout if you volunteer?

I did volunteer and I still get my payout and I can't influence the decision but they prefer to get rid of the volunteers first but it's either going to be a yes or no .

did you train to do a specific task in the army? i.e. electrician, mechanic etc ?

if not, what qualifications do you have and what areas are you interested in working in ?
I only ask in case it's something someone on here could help with.
I know a good agency for the construction industry with one contact in particular that I trust and have used for about 20 years. im sure some on here would have similar contacts in other feilds that may be of help

OK mate, Will have a word to see if we are looking for anyone, but it is likely to be hands on kitting out and refurbishing returned containers on contract work at present. It would be working out of Hastings, some work in Hampshire/Somerset and some in theatre.
