Lightbulb Any aircraft engineers on here?

Basically I want to change my career path. I've spent the last 15 years as a flight simulation technician and i'm so bored of it. I really want to get into real aircraft engineering, namely rotary wing but i'm not sure whether my skills would be transferrable or if i'm going to need to start from the bottom. Any advice would be very welcome!

Cheers,
Scruff

i'll let her know when she gets in, yeah my misses is a rotery wing B1.3 Engineer. Her Dad and also myself up until a year ago worked for the Civil Aviation Authority so I have a few contacts there.

What I will say is that there are probably a lot more oppertunities in fixed wing, especially down South. So worth keeping that in mind.

Brilliant, thanks Si! I know what you mean about more opportunities for fixed wing, planes just don't do much for me though. I was looking at bristow, Redhill, but have just heard that they've moved to Norfolk. Either way, I have a number for their chief engineer so I'll give him a shout, there's also EBG at Redhill too. They must have a maintenance dept there. Any info would be really helpful. Many thanks.

Augusta Westlands down in Yeovil may be recruiting to support the Wildcat Helicopter Simulator, so that may be a step in the right direction with your simulator knowledge.

I have 2 guy's down there supporting the installation, and 1 sub-contractor.

PM me and if you have a CV I may be able to wave it around our place. But we have made a lot of redundancies lately so recruiting at the moment may be difficult.

Jo did her apprenticeship at Bristows in Redhill, when it was all downsized she went to Aberdeen to work on the offshore stuff. Smaller stuff you have SHoreham and a few other smaller airfields. But be prepared to travel and be flexible i think. She's tired at the moment and just going to bed, so i expect she will pm you tomorrow.
