British Rallycross R1 2014 - Lydden Hill
The British Rallycross Championship got underway at Lydden Hill a couple of weekends ago and, given that you guys have never moaned at me for posting pictures in the past, I thought I’d post some more!
As with last year this opening British round also formed part of the Belgian Rallycross Championship, so there were loads of additional cars in most classes, plus the standalone Belgian Super National classes. Pretty much anything goes in the Belgian Super Nationals… Damn shame that the British Championship doesn’t roll some of the lesser supported divisions into a catch-all class the same way the Belgians have. There were loads of cool Fords running in the Belgian Super Nationals. From Ludo Hermans rear wheel drive EscCos... …to a trusty Mk.2 Escort. By far the maddest looking Ford of the day was also running in the Belgian Super Nationals: After a year out, Steve Hill was back in his (very cool looking) Evo X… …it wasn’t a great weekend for him though, as his engine destroyed itself on Saturday (timing belt jumped and all the valves tried to escape). The team rebuilt the engine Saturday night and it ran Sunday, but the car never made the final. Skateboarder Danny Way made his rallycross debut in the Suzuki Swift Championship. He actually did pretty well; be interesting to see when and where he next appears in a rallycross car. Slightly depleted grids from the Retro Rallycross guys, but more cars are due to join the series later in the year: still enough of them to be entertaining though! Krzysztof Skorupski is making the step up from Super 1600 to Supercars in 2014. Obviously a pretty big jump, but he looked pretty confident by the end of the weekend. The Super 1600 entries were much better than normal, with loads of new British cars for 2014. The Belgian drivers dominated the class though, Dennis Remans eventually taking the win in his Mk. 6 Fiesta. Last year’s RX150 Championship Marc Scott claimed another victory. Julian Godfrey and Kevin Procter had a great scrap in the Supercar A final, finishing third and fourth respectively. Great drive from Jochen Coox in his very sleek looking Scirocco to take second in the Supercars. Out front for pretty much the entire race, Koen Pauwels won the Supercar final. It was a messy final in places, but he avoided all the contact and took a very clean win. Another quality weekend of racing. I’m now counting down the days until the World Rallycross is at Lydden!

Good to see Vince out there again, in his very standard looking BMW.
Also good to see RB foundation stickers on the side |
