Default Another BIG price rise in fuel.

I have just received this email.

Dear FairFuelUK Supporter

The Government is still on track to put up fuel duty in January 2012 and August 2012. These rises will add 33p per gallon to the already massive cost of petrol and diesel.

If you are angry and upset by the high cost of petrol and diesel please do the following two things for us as soon as you can:

1. If you haven’t already done so, go to this link http://action.fairfueluk.com/debateNov15, put your postcode in and then follow the instructions to send an email to your MP urging them to attend a major debate in Parliament next Tuesday 15th November on this vital issue. If they don’t know how upset and angry we are about this issue, they may not attend.

2. Please just pass this email on to everyone you know urging them to use the link above and then pass it on to all their contacts.

We need thousands of people to press their MPs on this issue. The Chamber of the House of Commons needs to be packed with MPs next Tuesday who are in no doubt about the suffering being caused by high petrol and diesel prices.

We need your help to do this…
Thanks again for all your support in the fight for lower petrol and diesel prices

Very kind regards

The French would not have it..

This will affect everything,

and every thing that has to be transported will go up in price.

At least if everyone gets in touch with their MP you would have tried to do something.

Sorry you are wrong.

The Planned 3p fuel duty rise in January is to be scrapped.

But duty will go up by 3p in August.
This could change in the April budget with more public support, fingers crossed.

The rise in August was already on the books which was proposed originally by the Labour party when they were in power.

An email I have just received..

I would say though if people dont sign up. You must have too much income not to worry about this fooking rip off for every motorist, so if you havent signed up please do so.

Dear FairFuelUK Supporter

Planned 3p fuel duty rise in January to be scrapped. August 2012 duty rise reduced from 5p to 3p

A welcome response from the Chancellor but......

Reacting to news in the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement that the January 3p rise in fuel duty is to be scrapped, Quentin Willson, spokesman for FairFuelUK said, ‘This is a victory for FairFuelUK but only a stay of execution. We've saved the UK 9p since March in proposed fuel duty rises and we are now the gatekeepers of fuel sanity for this country. We're going to carry on pressurising this government to keep duty down and reduce it significantly. If we don't they'll hike it up again the first chance they get''.

Peter Carroll who runs FairFuelUK said, ‘Adding another 3p a litre at this critical time for the economy would have been economic madness. It’s a little like a sick man being told that he was going to get worse, but then being told he’s not! Like the sick man, the economy is still in a bad way. Petrol & diesel remain far too expensive. We will be fighting on to try and make the Government understand that the economy needs an actual cut in fuel duty – a cut would create jobs, give people a little more disposable income and stimulate the economy. This will mean that the Government and the Chancellor will gain, not lose, by cutting duty’.

Theo De Pencier, Chief Executive of the Freight Transport Association (FTA) said, ‘We have avoided a horrendous New Year’s hangover; January's rise would have cost the industry around £325m. But while we are relieved that the Chancellor has steered us out of immediate danger, it is obvious that getting the UK back on the road to recovery requires a long term fuel duty strategy, and one which doesn't make already tough times that much tougher for businesses in an already uncertain economy. Today's decision will help to keep the wheels of industry turning. But the government must now look at taking more substantive steps to invoke a longer term fuel duty policy that doesn’t punish business, prevent growth and grind those wheels to a halt.’

Geoff Dunning, Chief Executive of the Road Haulage Association (RHA) said, ‘We welcome this news. This will go some way to alleviating the impact of escalating fuel prices for all users. However, this can only be regarded as a short term fix. If the UK is to have any chance of economic recovery it is imperative that a long term solution to this problem be found as a matter of extreme urgency’.

Adrian Tink of the RAC said, ‘It’s a victory for common sense. With people paying in excess of £1300 per year just to go about their daily lives this needs to the first, not the last, step. This is welcome short term relief, but what is the Chancellor’s plan if prices keep going up next year’ The

FairFuelUK campaign is backed by the RAC, the RHA and FTA. It achieved a major Parliamentary debate on 15th Nov to discuss the crisis of petrol & diesel prices. MPs from all Parties backed the call for a rethink on fuel duty. The FairFuelUK campaign has attracted the support of more than 200,000 members of the public and over 150 Parliamentarians.

As ever, the more people that sign up to www.fairfueluk.com, the louder and more effective our voice becomes. So please, pass on this message to family, friends and contacts urging them to sign up and to follow us on Twitter - @FairFuelUK

Thanks again for all your support in the fight for lower petrol and diesel prices

In theory but obviously depends on the price of crude.

And the greedy bastards at the petrol companies.

And if the government backtrack on what the say again and find a way around what they say, Still annoying that no matter what the price of petrol is the government slaps 60% of its share on

The latest update:

Dear BIG"E"

The e-petition 'CHEAPER PETROL AND DIESEL, BY ROBERT HALFON MP AND FAIRFUEL UK' signed by you recently reached 125,217 signatures and a response has been made to it.

This e-petition has reached 100,000 signatures. The Government has notified the Backbench Business Committee in the House of Commons, who have scheduled a debate on the matter on 15 November. This e-petition will remain live, and people will be able to continue adding their signatures. In the meantime, we would like to update you on the Government’s current position on the substance of this e-petition. “The Government recognises that the price of petrol has become an increasingly significant part of day-to-day spending. We know this is causing real difficulties in ensuring that motoring remains affordable and people are feeling the pinch. This is why we announced a £2bn package, in the Budget, to support motorists. We cut fuel duty by 1 penny per litre from Budget Day. We cancelled the previous government’s fuel duty escalator which would have increased pump prices by 1 penny above inflation – with further above inflation increases in each of the next three years. The Government also introduced a fair fuel stabiliser so that when oil prices are high, and oil profits are higher, fuel duty will increase by inflation only. We also made sure that there will be no fuel duty rise this year by deferring April’s inflation-only increase to January 2012. Our actions resulted in average pump prices being about 6 pence per litre lower than if we had continued with the previous government’s fuel duty plans. Following the January increase, average pump prices in 2011-12 could still be 2.5 pence per litre less than if we had implemented the escalator. Therefore, a typical Ford Focus driver will be £56 better off this year. And an average haulier will benefit by approximately £1700. This package of support was paid for by increasing tax on North Sea oil companies that benefit from high oil prices. Oil prices peaked in late April. The Governments wants falls in oil prices to be passed onto consumers at petrol stations. Average pump prices have fallen since their peak in May. However, the investigation into suspected infringements of competition law is, in the first instance, a matter for the Office of Fair Trading. Like other taxes, fuel duty plays an important part in supporting public finances. This is a time of real international uncertainty and instability, from which no country can be immune. The crisis in the eurozone and the downgrading of the US credit rating shows why action was necessary. Due to the record Budget deficit that we inherited, the Government has had to set out plans to get public finances back on track. This includes deficit reduction, but also includes measures to support families and businesses such as increasing the personal allowance. Together with the increase this year, the changes to the personal allowance will benefit 25 million taxpayers and take 1.1 million individuals out of tax altogether. Conversely, abandoning the Government’s plan could lead to rising interest rates and falling international confidence, which would undermine the recovery. The cut in fuel duty and scrapping of the fuel duty escalator, together with increases in the personal allowance and cuts in corporation tax will continue to support households, businesses and the economy – while we also deal with the debits we inherited.”
