Default central locking not working

As above,it works if I put the key in the door and lock it by hand(all 4 doors lock) and it will set the alarm with the key fob but it wont lock the doors. It make a noise as if it is trying to lock but doesnt quite get there. Could it need a new battery in the key fob?or could it be a new car battery is needed.

Thanks
