Try Autoglym metal polish mate use it all the time on the exhaust brings a good shine .

The Pas cooling ring can be painted as can the rad, however it may affect performance, I've used Eastwood radiator paint.

I know what you mean but I'm not too bothered by other people looking in there, it's to satisfy my own ocd'ness. It's another little cheap thing I can do which might help me hold off from wanting to do something expensive for a bit longer think I'll start with the metal polish. Thanks guys!

use a good degreaser, and then maybe some dash cleaner to bring the black back? Also being dash cleaner, it may resist UV, and won't be too affected by heat...just an idea...
