Thumbs down car feels broken...

Since my car had 2 stretched tryes put in this morning I have major driving issues.... The car was jacked up both sides at same time. Not far from driving away my car made a panting sound from under, like dog panting or wheel scrubbing noise, as I hot few more miles down road it worsens..... Got to garage and we thought could be prop shaft.... Went back hr later and it had stopped"completely" prop shaft bit of play but nothing major..... Left thinking it was a freak thing and all be ok..... Anyway a few miles down road it started up again and by the time I hot home, some 15miles later , my car felt like was going yo split in two.gear knob bouncing all over the place , banging as long I was like playing drums on saucepan and everything I have to.pull away from stopping or slowing down it feels like something has popped free, "like clutch butting but billion times worse.... It going in garage tomoz , but WTF ... Only hadtyres changed. Didn't do it before either!!! Confused.com I'm not so "happydays" today .....

What size tyres are on the front now, and on the back now?

I've heard of people have problems with diff wind-up issues when the rolling circumference of the wheels is different front-back. If the gear stick is bouncing all over the place it must be transmission related so checking diff and prop would be my first call!

I have 225 45 17 on front and 205 45 17 on the back..... It's one of the most scariest drives I've had.... Because of the wheel rub on back everyone said to put stretch tyres on back and prob with rubbing will stop.....

You will get the diffs winding up all four tyres must have the same rolling circumference

Does seem odd its doing it after the tyre change, and I get the theory of diffs winding, but really can't see it making the kinda of difference you are describing. I'd have visual inspection underneath as well.

Almost certain that's because of tyres!! Can cause this......Lucky it hasn't done some real damage from the sounds of it!!

The recommended tyre size for the 17 inch wheel is 205/45 ZR 17, although 215/40 ZR 17 will be ok and have a big choice......

Going on a quick tyre calculation, you have 18mm difference in diameter between front and back tyres!!! not good

You'll be lucky if all the diffs are ok after that!

Must have same rolling radius on all 4 wheels.

I'm worried about long term damage, but I did drive slow(40mph)max to prevent major damage not knowing what it was, ll know tomoz after driving to work if there is anys noticeable badness left after today, so if there is a "god" please be nice to me and I hope it was just a wake up call...... I will keep you all posted if it does go poop ..... Xx

Ha ha.... I did think about it but.... I just can't do "silver" cars....... And I won't get much as it got history as was a cat c write off in 2008.....
But on a good note.... She seems ok this morning, got me to work without any bangs or noise, so fingers crossed my careful driving yesterday kept damage to a minimum..... Least I will know this car inside out lol x

I have 225 45 17 on front and 205 45 17 on the back...

He has the same rolling radius 45 front & rear 205 or 225 won't make any difference apart from catching arch's. If you find a good machine shop they will be able to take a couple of mill off your wheel hub centre. Or get arche's rolled.

The 45 profile is a percentage of the width not a standard height

This.

Think of it like 205 x 0.45 = 92.25, 225 x 0.45 = 101.25, circumference is different

http://www.tyretraders.com/Tyres_Calculator.aspx

tyre calculator there, input 205/50/16 and 225/40/17 and you have 0.2mm out on the radius, which I suspect would work as thats the kind of difference you would get mixing new and old tyres on the front/rear axles, but, it would mean you need 2 new rims. I would suggest borrowing 2 wheels from someone just to double check before you parted with any cash.
I would also guess the sprung weight of the wheels would change so you might wanna play with damper settings on that axle.

I've deff started something ,bless you all my car is still wobbly after yesterday but not Ty o bad that normal person would notice, but you know your car and every noise etc, I can't roll my arches as passenger one is pugged from previous accident so I'll save for new rims..... Think I'll be spending money on changing diffs etc just for piece of mind in future.... Means car be safe and good but stay looking standard.... I love my scoobies and try to look after my car ..... "such is life" x
