Swirls central
got to say im shocked at the level of swirl mark and little scratch marks whick i think were caused by the cat jane adopted last year
following from pieman instuctions i set upon my P1 car was snow foamed, dryed detarred and washed with washing up liquid (fairy as i sensitive hands) and dryed of again to show up it glorypics arent the greatest but you get the idea theres not 1panel on the P1 that doesnt have a swirl mark the heat is killing my progress at the monent even the clay bar has melted,so there isnt any way im going to attempt to mask it up and machine polish to be continued |

Can't wait for the update Phil
A good clean really does bring up the defects that get covered by some of the products people use on their cars. Proper hot one today, so very wise not to hit it too hard today |

How come mate? I've always done 50/50's with a DA and never had a problem, wouldn't consider it with a rotary though as its more harsh

Amazes me why people do it? you effectivly add a depth defect by doing so!! A safer way is to set up a camera and take photos as you go along.... befores/durings and afters...... ............ Great work Phil, looks like you getting a great result better to take your time and get it right, than rush and balls it up......... |

No! As you know, paint depth readings are an average of numerous readings taken over the worked area. You therefore cannot 'level' the finish! It would be unwise to do so.
Working on the principal that you should only remove the bare minimum necessary to correct or enhance a finish, good technique and sufficient paint readings across a worked area mean you only work any given area as is needed to get the desired result.... The difference between normal passes and cutting a 'line' is a huge difference, your right though that there's lots of people out there that set up and work 50/50 shots! And go on to end up with a great looking finish but! Everyone should be looking to provide the best finish whilst not reducing the paint finishes to do so. You know yourself that there's plenty of techniques and tricks out there , so long as there's as little degradation of the paint finish whilst doing the work, then alls good. Next car you get that has fairly equal readings on opposite panels, say both rear quarters, take some readings after a normal correction and a 50/50 you'll be surprised Don't forget to IPA prior to taking the readings. Well have to get together and throw some ideas about over a beer sometime Sorry Phil, we've gone a bit OCD |
