Default SRR 20th Feb

I'm off to SRR for a date with Simon on the 20th if anybody is about, the big question is will the tubular headers see me over the 450 mark?

To be honest I'm not too fussed on headline figures, I'm hoping the tubular headers will open the top end out slightly but not damage spool too much. Mostly I want another good check of the car prior to Germany and a sort out of a couple of niggles.

You may need some cams to bennifit the headers Nick

Cams are a possibility but if I go that far we are talking getting the block closed and some headwork as well which is out of my price range at the moment!

Hi Nick

I would say,you should gain on the top end,on V-power I would be surprised if doesn't make more than 450bhp

Are you considering too Methanol running?

Yours cams should be OK at this level,we are run JDM WRX cams at 490bhp without the problem, although with better cams we will be making more possibly with better top end

You are running 2.5L AVCS heads or 2.0L AVCS heads?

2.5 Semi closed deck, forged rods and pistons. 2.0 STI 8 AVCS heads and cams with modded combustion chambers to suit 2.5.

600 here on standard cams
It's the inlet manifold that's in my list after doing a back to back test

Nick, let us know how you get on. If you don't get to 450 its not an issue - its the driveability, and you have a very nice spec there.

Good to see you Neil and Adam, not quite the result I was hoping for, 442.4 so a whole 2bhp more! I'll post graphs etc. in my project thread later.

A few running issues sorted plus the ACT sensor fixed, KS3 set-up properly. Car is now only boosting to 1.5 bar (1.6 before) to get the same power so the engine is running safer. There is more in the setup with boost turned up but due to a slipping clutch it was left at 1.5 bar for now.

Looking at the plots side by side I do appear to have lost a tiny bit of spool with boost building around 100-200rpm later with the switch from ported headers to tubular.

Not sure how that one ended up as he had a dodgy boost hose due to the nipple from the turbo pointing straight up into the bottom of the Intercooler! He has to go back to his garage to get it fixed.

Good to meet you guys today, gonna get my fuel pump sorted asap and get back up there, might get Simon to map mine to around 370-375 if he thinks it'll be safe long term.

That's a shame mate, understandable you're dissapointed but as you say, at least it's a bit safer now. Rather that than sorry any day!

I'm not 100% sure on the turbo but I think its an APS SR40
Full de-cat
Buddyclub spec3 exhaust
Hyperflow top mount intercooler
Wing mount induction kit
After market exhaust manifold (un-sure on make)

Was mapped a few years ago at 404bhp but wouldn't wanna take the chance running that sort of power long term on standard internals.

hi adam reading up in a jap mag the sti is safe over the 400 mark however the wrx at this amount is running on borrowed time! would be a good shout to give jgm a call and ask its potential? once you have the pump in the fella working with simon said there shouldnt be no reason why you couldnt turn the boost back up!

404 from an SR40? Only seen those kind of figures twice, once on mine (2.5) and on Tims.

I was running the sr40 at 370 on my 2.0 before it died, they are not the fastest spooling turbos though!

Don't quote me on it guys as I'm really not sure, however I do think its been at GRD at some point and it looks like it has their 'stage 3' set-up which lists the sr40 as the turbo used.

It doesn't kick in properly till about 3500-3800 rpm so your certainly right about the spooling speed mate

GRD and that spool certainly sounds like an SR40, if its red it probably is an SR40!

Managed 369.1bhp (can't forget the .1 ) Simon reckons the injectors stopped it going higher although I thought STI pinks were good for more, the turbo is now running just under 1.4bar so its pretty safe, will do for now anyway will post the graphs tomorrow.

I think I went to parallel fuel rails on the pinks and got a bit more power, but a set of re flowed blues is the way to go on std rails. Just pick up a cheap second hand set and get them re flowed. But make sure you buy a new set of seals.

Looking at the graph, it may not be the SR40 as mine was much slower to spool!

For comparison, boost before:
