Default Porsche Break Lap Record

Not seen an official announcement yet, but it looks like Porsche have broken their own lap record using the 919 Evo. Previous record (set using a Porsche 956) was 6:11.13, just seen a report that claims they have done it in 5:19.54!

Can't wait to see the onboard!

I saw a few clips a couple of weeks ago and the speed it was carrying was unreal.

My calculations might be off, but I think that lap time is 145 MPH average speed!

That is mental. I wonder how long the standard 919 would have taken?

That looks like it was either sped up or simulated - the corner speeds were unreal and 360kmph on the redline all the way down the straight!

What an awesome lap!

The onboard footage is incredible.

The WEC cars are unreal in my opinion.

The son of one of my clients drives for Toyota and there was recently a feature on him, which had some in car, fixed camera and other quite interesting footage. The speed that they corner at is astounding.

The fact that they race for six hours, up to twenty four hours, bends my mind a bit!

The 919 used is not WEC spec, it’s what WEC could have been:

https://www.topgear.com/car-news/mot...rsche-919-evo-

Faster than a current F1 car round Spa....

Looks like Porsche’s ‘919 Tribute’ tour will be worth keeping an eye on for what they do next

Yeah sorry, I obviously should have been more precise in my comment. I assumed everyone would be au fait with the background.

My point on the current crop of WEC cars, especially the Toyota as the only big player now Audi and Porsche aren't competing, stands though.

Must admit, had no idea it was only a V4 engine, last people I knew that made a V4 were Ford for use in the Mk1 Transit.

I'm not much of a biker, but I think a fair few V4 bikes exist.

You're right though, not exactly the go to block in four wheeled vehicles. Probably is the Transit that last used one. Struggling to think of others!

Must admit, didn't really think of bikes, the Honda VFR range have always been V4s and we all remember the crazy RD500LC and RGV500.

Ducati's latest dragonslayer is a V4, but then they are Audis now.

Anyway, I popped in to say a few things.

1. That lap was amazing

2. Almost as fast as Big E's lap, though I can see some areas where he can improve, so your time may be in danger E.

3. Don't forget this laptime by Porsche was only made possible by the rubbering in of the circuit performed by Big E and Mike.

But mostly Mike.

So,

Thanks Mike.
