Default World Rallycross Championship R3 – Mettet

I went to Belgium a couple of weeks ago for the third round of the World Rallycross Championship. Not exactly a South East event, but I know there are a few rallycross fans on the forum so I thought I’d chuck a thread up.

Managed to get trackside access at the 11th hour, so I took lots of pictures. Here are some of my faves…

The first corner on the Mettet circuit is a tight 90 degree right: there was quite a lot of paint traded on this corner!

The slope leading to the lower half of the track caused some interesting moments, some drivers had the speed spot on…

…others were coming in a bit too hot!

Ollie O’Donovan was one of several entrants from the UK. This was the debut event for his new Fiesta: it didn’t stay this clean for long!

Jerome Grosset-Janin seemed to be having difficulty hanging on to all his body work. In heat 4 his rear bumper made a break for it…

…and in the European Championship final he lost most of the back end of his car. He still won though, despite the fact the front end of his 208 was bent and the right hand door was flapping around for thoughout the race!

Solberg was absolutely on it in both the semi-final and final. Unfortunately he just misjudged his joker lap in the final and he lost to Toomas Heikkinen by a couple of car lengths. Second place was still enough to increase his Championship lead though.

Not the best circuit for spectating, but some quality racing and a brilliant atmosphere!
