Default Sound deadening removal

Going to be removing sound deadening soon, been doing some reading and there seem to be a few ways of doing it - some more successful than others.

Has anyone got any tips or know of any preferred methods?

Heat gun seems most common method which I have tried before but it made the glue tacky and even harder to get off under the actual sound deadening material

Seen all sorts of things left to soak on it including petrol and diff oil which apparently turns the material in to a mush which scrapes off

Dry ice and freeze sprays seem to be very effective but on the flip side are frickin expensive and hammering it to break it up dents the car

Any advice or tips appreciated
