Electrical problems!
A few weeks ago my car kept cutting out, then would start a couple minutes later. I thought it was the fuel pump, but it turned out there was no power getting to the fuel pump... So my boss decided to bypass the live wire that runs through the car into the fuel pump, since he did that the car runs spot on but ive been left with a few new problems... First one being when just the ignition is on, the cooling fans have a mind of their own, which drains the battery in minutes. Number 2, my engine management light flashes constantly, and it now reads about 8 faults on a code reader at work, before he bypassed the wire it read none.. And finally, the most annoying problem of the 3, my indicators no longer work. The when locking and unlocking the car they all flash normally, and the hazard lights work fine. If anyone knows of anything that can help it would be appreciated! Thanks a lot, Alex.

Hi mate welcome to ses, the first thing i would do is un bypass the live wire, as by the sounds of it that's causing the rest of the problems. then take it to a specialist to see what's causing the origional fault.

Good plan, you're in Kent so you have Slowboy racing at Brands Hatch.

follow the route of the wire he put in and have a look around. he most likely disturbed some wiring which is causing the rest of the problems

I'd remove the new wire and check if the odd behaviour disappears (apart from the fuel pump issue). Can you check the circuit with a multimeter from the pump to the fuse board to see if there's a break in the standard car wiring?

Yeah ive gotta have a good look, only thing being im not sure what he did with the old wire. I'd only had the car less than a week so i just wanted it fixed! Is there anywhere locally to me (rainham in kent) that does car electrics?

If you are getting a random range of gremlins, it may well be earth related. The fuel relay may have a bad earth and unable to hold the relay closed, so it would cut the power to the fuel pump occasionally.
Locate all the earths (engine bay and cabin) clean them and the surfaces with emry paper and that my well sort the problem, or at least prevent some problems in the future. |
