Default hatches????!!!!

Why are the hatches so disliked in the Subaru community????

I have to admit I quite like them.....

Think its got something to do with it being so different from the classic, although they have gotten bigger, the basic saloon shape has stayed. Makes for easier transition because its easier to see the much loved shape within the newer cars.

Also think part of it is down to the hatch not living up to many enthusiasts expectations. We were all wanting more from it, from the moment it was announced, everyone was thinking it would be a game changer! didn't happen

That said, I too have a liking for the hatch now since people have started modifying/enhancing them, there are some excellent examples floating about.......

just my opinion

I think it was just so far removed from what we are used to that alienated a lot of people to them.

They have grown on me, slowly but surely. Especially when I saw one at Surrey Rolling Road (DaveP I think) That just looked the nuts, I saw them in a different light after that. I think you need to look around a good one in the flesh to reall appreciate it.

Having heard people who have driven them give glowing reports, maybe we are really missing a trick?

I think one other problem is that they are not in the hands of enough entusiasts yet, the arrival of the Hatch coincided with a downturn in the economy. Give it another couple of years and I think we will see more and more of them.

Remember myself and Shaz watching a STI going through dartford tunnel and then looking at Petes (ExhaustUK's owner project car for subaru UK) and they are growing on us.

I think Worzel has pretty much echoed my thoughts on the hatch. They did make quite a radical change in direction with the hatch and it was hard to take in at first. There isn't a lot of them about though and, as Anger said, the problems that have plagued those that are on the roads haven't helped build their image...

...looking at cars like Dave P's hatch though, with just a few minor cosmetic tweaks the hatch looks far better. Seeing a few of them being thrown around on various rallies has helped then grow on me as well!

Its funny but, when I first saw the new sedan alongside the hatch, I was actually favouring the hatch...

What a sack of money Subaru lost with this car. It didn't sell, it didn't win anything, It kept going BANG or didn't go at all. It stole it's name from world rally cars. Impreza more like imposter! Scrap it start again

It's still ugly as fook though. Being the 2.0 litre has the stronger engine. The hawk didnt suffer from so many engine failures as a 2.5 litre. Have Subaru admited to why so many ugly's did? Was it cheaper materials used for the EU? It just seems that Subaru lost interest & many people had to fight to get there engines replaced. One guy missed a minor oil filter service & when his engine went BANG Subaru refused to entertain him. Nightmare cars hate them with a passion. Impreza Imposter.

Actually the hatchback has been very successful as a Group N machine - and Subaru Japan still runs a programme for rally support; unlike a certain manufacturer that abandoned most of its factory-backed rally programmes for the X...

Didn't they switch to non-forged engines for the EU hatchback? (Could be completely wrong here - I await the comments of someone in the know )

So you don't like them then

Personally I think they are now looking smart, nice and small, practicalility of a Hatch. And look like a pocket rocket should.

Granted do something with the rear lights, put a larger set of wheels on that actually fill the arches, front lip and a few other bits an bobs and they would look a very sorted motor. And although not been in one, would imagine they are a very nice place to be. Shame about the possibly weaker engines, but get a private warranty from warranty wise for £450 and job done.

and p.s The classic was the proper, first, last and definative scoob

Your right the classic was the 1st & the newage carried that winning streak on beating every other car in the world.
So wtf has the ugly done to deserve the impreza name?..........a big fat nothing.
It has the most warraty claim's of any car since the calibra turbo.
Fact its soooooooooo fooking ugly. In fact you could make money out of it by getting one now then locking it up for 20years [as you couldnt drive it just in case it blew up] or so. Then open it up to public viewing for a £1 a look. Mr Merwick made his money. Why not the ugly. Impreza not Imposter

The Evo X is doing well in group N. It also has a history going back to dominating the world rally scene same as the Scoob classic & new age. The ugly has none of that & in my opinion lets Subaru down as proberly in fact most defiantly the most unreliable car Subaru has made for the UK.

I thought i saw an Impreza hatch this morning, but it was an Astra.

Give it a couple of years when more people have played with the styling and they might be good

I keep saying it, get over and look at Wrongfitmentcrew webby, some rather nice hatches over there, and their already modding the new real version with the boot.

Nige, sorry mate, but even you can't say this one looks bad.

As Chunk said, give it a couple of years of people fettling with them over here and they will start looking like this as a rule.

Yes indeedy! The hatch Impreza has taken the PWRC and Middle Eastern Championship titles a fair few times in the last couple of years.

I agree that the standard hatch looks very Astra like, but then the standard classic Impreza looks like a Corolla. And the standard Lancer looks like any Japanese 4 door box. Its the STi/Evo models where the comparison should be drawn (in my opinion) and, out of the box, the STi hatch didn't look great, but with a few minor tweaks (grill, mirrors etc.), I thought the UK hatch looked much improved.

How long has the Evo X been in group N for as a comparison to the ugly. Give it a chance. I agree Duke it's not the best looking. Come on compared to the ugly. I think you will have to say the X takes that one.
