Great pictures mate,

I am so glad I saw the Vulcan today,

Such a pity its designer never saw it fly and to think it is 60 years old..

You are correct about Roy Chadwick. There were only a few years (6 I think) between him designing the Lancaster and then the Vulcan. They are so different. He died in an Avro Tudor crash.

Just some anorak stuff for you Ian. (I have too many reference books) XH558 first flew on 25 May 1960, and went into service 1st July 1960.

The Vulcan bomber prototype VX770 first displayed at Farnborough in September 1952, so the Vulcan bomber is celebrating 60 glorious years this year, just like the Queen.

So glad you found it emotional - we still do after having seen it now every year for several years. Kev Rumens (today's pilot) is ex-Tornado pilot and served in the Gulf War, and he tends to throw it about more than the other pilots.

Fantastic to see her today.
I've waited and donated every year since she got back in the sky.
It was quite emotional to see her at last and glad I had sunglasses on to hide my glassy eye's.

It must of also been great over at Cuckemere and Alfriston when they were in holding and departing.

Did they get to see her at the Asda day as heard something about a Brunters fly past.

We had a nice extra surprise during the airshow display up at Bruntingthorpe as well today.

In the shape of the Vulcan

There's a fab video of Vulcan coming round the lighthouse at low level on youtube.

There were a lot of misty eyes Scott!

First time seeing the Vulcan for me, and I invited a friend who used to fly Valliants to watch from my house. Although he used to see these fly regularly he was still caught up in the excitement.
He mentioned that he had a go in the Vulcan simulator when a friend of his was running it, and it was the first aircraft he had come across with a joystick rather that steering wheel.
Hope it returns next year

I saw this at the Asda Charity day yesterday and I'm not going to lie I thought it was an odd looking thing and I couldn't understand the fuss. However Steve PPP pointed out earlier in a thread that its the only one in existence flying and having read the coments you guys have left not only do I feel stupid, but also pleased I got to see it. As for it being 60 years old, that's mind blowing. Fantastic is now my opinion of it.

Welcome to the "Vulcan Effect" as it is called. Don't feel stupid - you got to see it and that's what counts!!

Scott, I bet. It looks like it flew past beachy head twice - first time it turned away from the cliff (showing its belly!) and the second time towards. Must have been amazing seeing it from the clifftop, looking down on it just above the sea.

SES outing to Shoreham on the cards then?

They do offer club stands for upto 10 cars at £100 per stand.
I would assume it's for classics though, but will ask.

Sounds interesting if they do allow non-classic cars, but i think you're on the ball and they'll want the older stuff that will compliment the event.

Well we will compliment the Jet's
If you are ever at an RAF airbase, just check out the cars in the car park....Scoob's, Evo's, Porsche (they can only afford Boxsters). We should fit in well.......

I am interested when is it?

As mine is a limited edition and no longer made does that make it a classic?

Pics are on Vulcantothesky forum. I am sure posh copies will be available in due course, and in the next year's (2014) VTOC calendar. Great pics from Oliver too.
