Default Communications training

The Squadron Leader and Krud Simpleton making sure that the 555 Wagon Squadron regulation issue walkie talkies work over great distances!

The signal does travel around the world for backup purposes, but in this particular test we’re verifying the 'Tape Communications' method.

It's a bit like the old 2 cups and a piece of string, except now we use a Wgn Sqn colour co-ordinated surveyors measuring tape!

Wind conditions were nominal for the test and yes the tape was calibrated by pullling it out a bit... and winding it in.

All good pilots make sure their measuring tapes are calibrated and ready for use at all times. Here's my SE.02 in all her glory...

I say chaps!!! Tally-ho!!

Was checking out my equipment, and realised my tape measure was a bit gung-ho in the accuracy department.

Now, don't misinterpret the above statement, what, but you know what I mean, Chaps!

Looked at the table, and realised the calbitrometer (on the table, just above and to the left of my tape measure) had an extra hole in the bevelled end. Must have worn away during constant calibration exercises!!

I can tell you I was nonplussed for a while, until that new Greek technician chap, Calamari Meringue from Mollycoddlicos, happened to be passing and showed me how worn the splines were!

Cutting to the short of it and all that, realised the old tape measure hasn't got the appropriate sticker anywhere in sight!!!

Trust the Squadron Leader to dig a chap out of a hole with no thought for himself or any cheese whatsoever!

Hurrah for the Squadron Leader !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Simpleton out......what!
