Default Possible sad news (for me anyway)

Evening guys and girls, it's looking like my days of Subaru ownership could be coming to an end at least for the time being so I've been looking for something that'll give me decent mpg while hopefully managing to not be a terrible drive. The car that keeps catching my eye is the Ford Mondeo 2.2TDCi 155 ST and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with them and what they are like to live with day to day?

I have been considering one for a daily, so will be interested to see.

Steve PPP has one from memory. I think Jura had one for a time too.

Shame you're having to get rid of your Impreza!

Hopefully Steve can share some good info then, I am gonna be gutted if I do have to get rid of it but sadly needs must, if I can manage to keep hold of it then it'll have to go off road but then it'll just annoy me knowing that I have it sat there and not able to use it

not got any experience with this particular model of ford, but when I was younger I used to do roadside recovery. My experience of fords and also what I heard from other colleagues was that fords were generally OK but once they started going wrong, they kept on going wrong, so buy something from a fan who keeps all the receipts for parts and work done so you can check if the work has been because they wanted it done rather than they needed it done. walk away from the latter.

Yep, had a ST TDCI for about a year now. Tbh, I can't fault mine.

Don't expect amazing mpg but i normally average 42-45mpg (about 500 miles to a tank). It'll do 50mpg on a nice quiet 70mph motorway run but more like mid-40s if you stick with the fast lane drivers. Good torque, and handles well for a big car. Little crashy over the bumpy stuff but then its a bit stiffer and lower than most diesels so you have to expect it in return for the improved handling. I'm still happy with the ride on my commute which is all B-roads (or worse).

Interior is nice, half leather. Miles ahead of Subaru The uprated Sony audio system is very good, heated seats nice in the cold, plus heated front screen defrosts in a couple of minutes with even the heaviest frost.

Problems wise.... lot of talk on the web about injector issues but touch wood, no issues with mine. EGR valves fail after getting clogged up (can put car into limp mode) but the part can be bought from Jag dealers for ~£140 and is easy to fit. Nothing else has gone wrong on mine other than the battery giving up, car has done roughly 85k. If you get one, expect the wheels to need a refurb as the factory finish is poor and doesn't last long. Most people get them refurbed in normal paint rather than the shiny chrome finish (whatever its called).

Generally, a quick comfy diesel. I've been thinking of selling mine for a legacy (just fancy a nice legacy estate) but the Mondeo also ticks so many boxes boxes that i haven't made the jump yet. You're welcome to pop over if you want to go out in it/have a look.

Oh yeah, forgot about that. Common issue, but ford don't seem worried. Its just noisy on idle but you can't hear it whilst driving, apparently its not a part that'll fail (other than causing the noise).

Think its a £300 fix, but the new tensioner will do the same within a year or two.

Cheers for that Steve very helpful the ones I'm looking at are around 100k miles, I take it so long as they've been looked after then they'll continue to run fine even with that mileage?

No not good at all mate but I'm having to be realistic, plus the missus and I are gonna start looking too save for a house in the new year and sadly I don't earn enough to justify keeping the Scooby, sad times

Leaky injectors and turbos are the big bills on them

I had one as a company car for 6 months, loved it. Absolutely abused it, as you go. Just keep going, nothing broke. Did only have 8000 miles on it or so though.

Cabin is a good set up, audio is good as Steve said, and it comes with blue tooth ready system, for those all important conference calls...
