You will only need to think about the remap when you decat.

There are plenty of people out there who can do your mapping, but I would suggest checking out JGM (Jolly Green Monster) for anything you need, most of us use Simon on here and are all very happy with the excellent service and products we get get from him

I wouldn't say you need to but it would definitely benefit, even with no mods it would! Worth doing the panel filter and getting it mapped is it sti or wrx?

As said above, cat back exhaust change is fine so no need for remap. Although it would help it release a bit more power, i'd save the money for other mods then remap later if you want more power.

I have a 2005 WRX. I have been thinking about having remap anyway and green panel filter. I was thinking of going to jf automotive they are very cheap and say they can get about 40 bhp from just a remap

Agree with CJ. I don't know anything about JF Automotive other than what i can see on their website - and i'd much rather trust a Subaru specialist over a more generic company that can map anything from Audi's to Transit vans

Its the engine after all, they get it wrong and it could be rebuild time.....

They do seem very busy and I am assuming that maybe that means they know what they are doing but like you so rightly say if they cock it up its gonna cost

The fact ive never heard of them in 9 years of subaru ownership means alot to me

Simon (JGM) is the only mapper i use now and ive used a few in the past

Having a quick trawl around suggests they do more diesel work than Subarus.

Think most people would point you in the direction of JGM, as he's doing scoobs most if not everyday

Mine was mapped by Andy Forrest, again well respected for Subaru mapping.....

Our very own SilverSurfer may be able to help you out too

Again, not wanting to dis a 'busy' mapping company but would suggest you go with more of a specialist / enthusiast route than perhaps a possibly cheaper alternative.......

Top guy locally would be JGM, then there are other good names but more of a trek such as, Zen Performance, Bob Rawle, Andy Forest, Engine Mapper (Graham), Martyn J @ Enginetuner, Powerstation (not sure who does theirs now).

Two main choices which are open source - lot's of good reviews and cheap (£300 or so) or ECUTEK - well know well tested but more expensive for the first map as you have to pay a license fee (£550 or so first map, £200 ish for each remap depending on time taken).

With a de-cat you should be looking at around 270+BHP

I happen to have an Ekutec, which was mapped by JGM which came out of my car, sitting around gathering dust.

Maybe (if suitable) you could grab a bit of a bargain

Sorry guy's don't commercial map anymore.
May do the odd squirt and check for close friends but lost interest and struggling to find the passion and time to even improve my own car's map beyong the 1.3bar it's currently running.

Hi Worzel I guess it would have to be remapped to my car as you probably have loads of mods on your car

I know nothing about mapping but,

if you get Worzels ECU and if its compatible you wont,

have to pay the RIP OFF licence fee.

He has an STI mine is WRX so like you I know nothing about remapping and ECU's so I would have to be guided by him. I have read also that if you are having a remap you would need to fit a decat up-pipe or could damage the turbo otherwise don't know if this is correct or not. I would of course get a panel filter

I'm not sure about the compatibility of the board, but like Ian says, if it was any good, you wouldn't have to worry about the licence part of things.

have you considered changing the fuel pump and air filter as well as de-cat?? if you uprate those too you will get more power for not too much extra outlay!! it goes without saying too that you need to keep the cat in the garage for mot time

I know it sounds great having extra hpi added to ur car by remap I think u just add more damage to ur car in the long run just having standard insides to ur engine u can just have the same fun just having it standard. Me by having one these cars they where designed for couple hours rally driving striped and rebuild for next day racing and us are driving these for so long of mileage hoping bottom end bearing don't go or a piston

These cars sometimes actually dont have a very good map on them in standard form and by getting it mapped properly you can smooth everything out and have it running properly without inflicting any damage on the engine. As you said, obviously there is more chance of doing damage the higher you push with standard internals, but you would be amazed how much nicer the car drives even with no mods and a simple map. My fuel consumption even improved marginally when mine was done the first time. There are as many standard ones going pop as mapped, it just depends on how its looked after and a bit of luck!. As for the rally cars, our cars dont really bear any resemblance to them as ours are built for the road, and as you say a rally car is built to do stages.

The key to it, is getting it mapped by someone who knows what they are doing and doesnt take the car to dangerous levels (unless the owner wants it!).

To the original poster, If you have a cat back box, change the fuel pump and filter and then map it, it will feel like a different car.

I have had my Bugeye wrx for over eight years and one of the only things which I have not changed/modded is the engine and getting it mapped is the best mod you can do, Power station did my first and Simon (JGM) has been looking after it with last 4 or 5 maps and it started 265hp and now running 352hp, 340blft which is as far I will go on standard internals so Simon is the man for me. Subaru's can take a lot more if you look after them plus the map is not just about the power it's the drivability and Fun :rally:

Won't work mate sadly. Your ECU will only work on a 2000 - 2005 STi (prior EJ25 and FBW).

I may be interested in the ECU however Steve?

Bit late to the party sorry.

I think it is a WRX - and with catback is shouldnt need a remap, although wouldnt hurt to have a check up to be sure, just in case fuel pump faulty or maf or vac hose issue etc.

If you intend modding it further then worth waiting.. if you dont intend adding more mods (decat, sports cat etc) then you could have it mapped and will gain power, torque and safety.

Sti UK ecu will only fit sti uk, wrx uk will fit wrx uk, sti jdm will fit sti jdm etc..

Simon
