Whatever it is looking at it I'd invest in a new system

It's a non-turbo GL, so it's not as readily available as replacement turbo systems (like the ones everyone myself included has sat in their sheds)

It does have a stainless backbox and unequal borla style headers fitted, and I have a spare centre section (de-resonated) in my shed for this car too, it's just typical that I don't have this bit...

Isn't that just the heat shield around one of your cats? Where's the leak actually coming from?

The pipe with the cat in is rattling?

A rattling cat suggests that the inner 'honeycomb' of the cat is breaking up. That means it'll start to diminish and fail, but doesn't mean the exhaust is leaking.

However, if it is cracked then that is a different story!

Default Exhaust leak, what component name? Impreza GL '97

On Friday, Dad took it to a garage to see where the problem was, because I suspected the zorst was blowing based only on the embarrassing noise created as a result of depressing the accel.

I'm told since that there were no signs of escaping gasses from the problem area, just the rattling noise - and something has cracked on the section apparently - whether that's only on the outer heat shield or the cat inside as well I guess I won't know until it's in bits on Ze garage floor

Spoke again with my Dad, he says the heatshield itself is not the issue in his opinion.
