Default THE 5th SES. RING TRIP 2013, 24th to 28th May

Yes at last this is it, the dates have now been published.

We will be leaving on Friday 24th and returning on Tuesday 28th.

This year we get even more time on The Ring than in previous years, 2 hours Friday evening, all day Saturday, all day Sunday and another 2 hours on the Monday evening.

On the past Ring trips, we have caught the 08.00am ferry from Dover - Dunkirk on the Friday morning, and get the 20.00 return ferry on the Tuesday evening.

The room costs will the same as the 2012 trip as follows:

11 standard double/twin rooms 78 Euros per room per night with breakfast (4 nights = 312 Euros)

5 comfort double/twin rooms 88 Euros the night with breakfast (4 nights = 352 Euros) All these rooms are now provisionally taken.

And 3 single rooms 50 Euros the night with breakfast (4 nights = 200 Euros)

Triple rooms if required. They cost 108 Euros the night with breakfast (4 nights = 432 Euros) If we have 3 singles bloke that don't mind sharing this is only 36 Euro per night,as opposed to 50 euros for 1 x single room!

This year we will require a deposit of £50.00 per room, which is to be paid by the 1st March.
Payments made before 1st March will be refundable up until this date where they will then become NON REFUNDABLE.

Payments should be made to : payments@southeastscoobies.co.uk via www.paypal.com with the comments field including details of who it is from.

WHEN MAKING PAYMENT PLEASE ENSURE THAT SOUTH EAST SCOOBIES RECEIVE THE FULL AMOUNT, AND THAT YOUR PAYPAL TRANSACTION CONFIRMS THIS.
ANY PAYMENT RECEIVED WHERE SOUTH EAST SCOOBIES INCURR PAYPAL COSTS WILL BE REJECTED / RETURNED

PLEASE THEREFORE USE A 'PERSONAL TRANSFER' NOT 'PURCHASE', AS BELOW :

Select 'Personal Transfer'.
It's free* when you use your PayPal balance or your bank account linked to your PayPal account. There is a charge of 3.4% +£0.20 GBP for debit or credit card payments (either the sender or recipient can pay this fee).

If using a Debit or Credit Card, Please ensure you select the option for the sender to pay the fee.

I have copied the provisional list.

This will proberly be taken the wrong way. Worzel, Crowman, Anger, Adrian, Ray, Neil ( i bought my Evo off Ray) All of these people I've been to the Ring with for 4 years. We have all had a good laugh one way or another.
What a shame it's come to separate dates for this years trip. Gutted is the word.

I've put this on IE aswell . Neil has txt & might be going on both trips Anger is in the same boat so hopefully he will be on both trips. I can't do both, I don't think there is enough track time on the early'r trip as there is only 1 full day the Rings open. People who have been before will know accidents happen & a full day can be halved quite easy. What a bloody shame people can't sort things out.
Never mind We are going to push the boat out on this one to make sure it's a trip to remember.
We need some ideas on Ring stickers with a uk theme to it. Union flag stuff red white & blue. Who's arty ? All ideas are welcome

Nige..

But at least this way a lot more people can experience The Ring and staying at Jacqueline's.

It will be good if Anger & AJF along with, ScoobySlayer (aka Neil) and Ray could join us for what will be SES's 5th trip.

Anyone else is welcome to join us until we have filled the hotel.

1) It's no wonder the Nurburgring is so hard to learn. It's one of the world's longest circuits, at 12.7 miles and 73 bends. The number of corners is in fact disputed, so wiggly is the Nordschleife.
2) The Ring was built in 1925. At a stroke, it helped alleviate local unemployment and served as a testing facility for the burgeoning German motor industry.
3) The old Ring comprised of two circuits which could be used either together (producing a total of 172 corners!) or as separate entities. The Nordschleife (North Loop) measured 14.2 miles and the Sudschleife (South Loop) a ‘mere’ 4.8 miles. The pits and paddock were located at the intersection of the two layouts.
4) The Nordschleife is still used today for a bonkers 24-hour touring car event, which regularly attracts 150 entrants.
5) Jackie Stewart scored perhaps his most famous victory in the 1968 German Grand Prix, winning by over four minutes in driving rain and thick fog.
6) A new track was built in 1984 and was christened with a race for Formula 1 drivers of various eras in identical Mercedes 190s. A young rookie by the name of Ayrton Senna upstaged a star-studded line-up that included Alain Prost, Keke Rosberg, Alan Jones, James Hunt, Stirling Moss, Phil Hill, Denny Hulme and Jack Brabham.

Any thoughts on ferry times? As its a bank holiday I'd like to book earlier rather than later - will hopefully be cheaper too. Calais or Dunkirk? Dunkirk gets you closer but it seems to take 30 mins more than the published time every time I've been on it

Dunkirk I expect as usual, we know where we're going then!

Ferry times..... usually go with 8am outbound, 6pm inbound I think? Although last couple of years we've got to the port early and got the 4pm back with no problems.

The information is in the first post of this thread.

On the return trip we normally book the 20.00 sailing just in case of an event,

But if all goes to plan we get the 18.00..

Right, deposit on the way but to confirm, we'll be training out on the Friday evening so expect to be at the hotel around 10/11pm and will be heading back on the Monday. We can't get the Friday off work so will be leaving Bognor around 3:30 and only have childcare until Monday evening .

The information is in the first post of this thread.

On the return trip we normally book the 20.00 sailing just in case of an event,

But if all goes to plan we get the 18.00..
Thanks Ian - had seen that but wasn't sure if it was confirmed yet. Although we did it last year it doesnt mean we'll do the same this year! Sorry, I'm just impatient and can't wait to go!

As above, Tim and I are sharing (it was the spooning that sealed the deal for me!). I have added my name to Tim's and paid the deposit.

i am having a nightmare trying to find insurance that will include 3rd party liability cover for the Ring, has anyone managed to find a company that does this?

track day insurance doesn't cover third party liability, nor does road cover with the "its a public toll road, mate, ignorance"

if anyone can recommend someone, can you let me know, as really want to get car safely on ring without getting possibility of being sued for every penny i ever earn in the future.

I think Moley can sort something if you're insured through him.

There's quite a debate on Insurance for the Ring. Most people aren't covered due to is it a race track or a toll road. I can say if your doing an organised track day there, you can get insurance no problem. As soon as it becomes a tourist day your in a huge grey area of am I covered or not????? As said above Gary is the man to talk to.

You will have public liability cover on most policies as it is considered a public toll road, oon TF days unless you have any specific exlusion on your policy. You will not have cover for own damage or anything else unless you have a specific policy in place.

Correct. But the problem is that most UK companies will exclude the Ring, so whilst they have to pay out for 3rd party claims, they've been known to chase the driver back in the UK to recover their costs. I have no idea how far insurance companies have got with this though - whether they've taken people to court or not.

Touristenfahrten driving is a grey area, as people are saying above - speak to Moley. Every time i go round, I make the assumption that i'm uninsured. Helps control the right foot a bit too
