Stews finished new manifolds and it was nice to hear the engine running again yesterday

Rear sdm subframe is in progress

New rcm prop is too nice to fit, carbon is just lush.

That subframe is a piece of art! Would they be any good on a road car?

This one no.

Needs fuel tank removed, spare wheel well removed, its solid mounted so you might have some vibration you might have issues with on a road car

Is that the fuel filter over the o/s exhaust box? Wouldn't a heat shield over it be better to keep fuel temp down?

Think I'd still put a panel between the fuel lines/filters and the exhaust
Something like:

Far more risk in every subaru engine bay
Fuel lines within few mm of turbo etc but it is on consideration list

If you read the blurb on the pick the double voting is unlikely to have been counted

Last time the car was on the dyno it showed signs that head gaskets might be marginal.. so as always with this car rather than sitting and thinking about it or risking that there might be a gasket issue and doing more damage... I dropped the car off at TFS racing and Stew removed the engine..
Leaving me with an empty engine bay to clean

I was concerned it might be block related having pushed the engine further than I had previously and with the block only being pinned..
Block is fine and all pinning still in place and deck still flat, but decided it was CDB time.. so another block was shipped to Drew for closed decking like this one

With Marham 30-130 being the next time I was intending using the car in anger we kept the short engine built up so it could be put back together quickly if required..
in the mean time Mahle have agreed to sponsor the new engine and have supplied pistons as sponsorship.. which I cant moan about
With Marham postponed I decided to definitely go ahead with CDB engine and so the previous bottom end Stew has now stripped ready to reuse rods and crank etc
I seem to be taking up a fair bit of space in his engine build room lol

The CDB is currently at SMG/Roland Alsop for machining

If its all back together in time then running in at pod on 24th lol.

in other news a customer kindly had this gift for the car made

Simon

About time I updated this.
Had not planned to do more to the car this year other than drive it on the new box and gt30s.

Plans are meant for changing?!

Engine pulled for cdb insert - all built back up and waiting on parts* before refitting, thanks to Smg and tfs racing.
* dailey engineering drysump another change of plan thanks to Mattys group buy, can't wait to get my hands on the piece of art

Also bought a syvecs s8 at the start of the year as twin widebands, twin egt, extra inputs all would be very nice

John Stevenson troubled again for a loom - wish I had the time to do my own but John does too good a job

New bonnet, boot, sideskirts all awaiting collection from bodyshop.

Itching to get back out in it.

Simon

Been a long while since I have had time to work on the car and a lot longer since I last drove it, its been in some ways a nice break as I have come back to it today with renewed enfusiasm. I was meant to be flying out of gatwick today but the mapping job has been postponed to next month so took advantage and spent the day at tfs racing with stew and craig "wiggle it a bit" taylor (massive thanks to them both for help today)

First up was to start emptying some of the many shelves I take up in the engine build room! And fit the manifold, alternator, water cross pipe and new plugs and coilpacks and crank pulley!

Whilst waiting for new plugs to arrive we removed a bit more weight from the car lol
One brake stew power

Then added the clutch and dropped the engine back in

We then fitted the gearbox, prop.

Then the exhaust headers and turbos

Also altered the wastegate sprint rates and plugged the engine loom in and plumbed most of the engine bay up.

Pretty much just the dry sump plumbing and tank to install

Although cdf racing has the new fuel rails near completion

So will be swapping the rails and injectors before first fire up

Seems like an age since this was last running and stew @ tfs (thanks mate) has been as keen as me to see it running again and whilst I have been busy has fitted the oil tank and made up the oil lines etc

So today was the day

It lives again

Some tidying up and a tank vent to sort and vac regulator left to do.

Well that was a busy day!

Got up early and got to tfs racing to collect the car for 8.
Over to surrey rr and did a few runs at low boost to run it in.
I wonder if the passenger footwell was most sensible place for oil tank lol
Just have to map it in winter from now on

Load car back on trailer and off to collect panels from paint shop which unfortunately are still not right!
Over to stews again and as the Wastegate springs had gone much weaker than expected so we changed the wastegate springs also which is always fun when they are in place, changed the oil and fitted the arches, boot and bonnet.

Back to surrey rr and a quick run on vpower to check that map is okay and then onto meth.

Got to 1.2bar and whilst idling as I was altering the map and basically pausing to keep it cool the engine stalls, strange, it wont restart and no cam sensor signal - quick check of wiring all okay, spend an hour searching for my spare sensor and find it and fit and it fires straight up - guess the sensor must be 20years old and objected to sitting 6inches from a hot gt30.
Very hot and himid evening and now 9:30pm so knocked it on the head at that.

Massive thanks to stew at tfs and charlie at surrey rr for today

Good going and typical that a cheap part stops play!

So this weekend I traveled to Elvington airfield to compete as part of the subaru 22b team at ten of the best..

The intention was to use the Saturday test day to get used to the gearbox and give the car a shake down but not risk breaking it before the event on the Sunday..

weekend wasn't without drama's lol.

first run out and only one fuel pump was working, syvecs fuel pressure trip saving the engine from lunching itself as it drove normally until on boost.
Took a while to find the issue, spade connector pulled off the back of the fuse box for one of the pumps, was possibly the guy checking the car over to meet safety regs as he was insistent on checking the battery thats mounted right up behind the dash was secure.
Ran the whole day on the toyo r888's as was saving the drag tyres for the event on the sunday and just wanted to get used to the gearbox and shake the car down without risking breaking it.. low 10 second run I think by the end of the day which I was v pleased with.

Sunday morning and I filled the tank with race fuel for the first time and the drag tyres were fitted.. I had an educated guess at the racefuel map and then did a run and check datalogs and altered the map repeatedly for most of the day, slowly getting more used to the gearbox and quicker.. eventually managing a 9.82sec pass.

Massive thanks to everyone that helped out with pushing the car to the line, or swapping wheels, encouragement etc etc..

Now hooked big time and eager to run the car again and add more boost and nos

The weakest link in the current setup is the headgaskets so I was trying to keep boost low ans get used to the car so all the time I could feel a run wasnt spot on I left it low.
Highest I run was 1.6bar. I think at around 2.2bar the power should be sufficent to do an 8.
I also can speed up the gearchange now the load cell is fitted to the shift rod on the box using a gear position sensor and running the ecu in closed loop flat shift.
