I've only done a few hundred laps on trips over the past few years. Only started working here this year and the track is yet to open due to weather/repairs, hopefully get my first laps of 2009 this weekend when it opens. We have a private trackday on Saturday and it's open to the public Sunday.

When the track opens I'll be on it everyday as it's the quickest way to get to the bakery Adenau for lunch

Once when I went grass cutting. No, I've never hit or come close to hitting another car. This is very rare.
The idea of using the Ring to get to the bakers is priceless

I get the road through Jarvis Brook, not fair I think

Very true. You only hear the horror stories, never the safe enjoyable laps.

The same could be said about car thefts, you hear about Impreza's getting stolen all the time but in reality it's a very small percentages.

If I'm available I don't mind giving a few passenger laps, give you a few pointers etc.

Unfortunately the way of the world. The meeting we had the other night was very informal but I think it put a couple of minds at rest.

If you were available to give some assistance that would be much appreciated.

With my history it is slightly different for me.

The last time I was on a track I ended up in the C.C.U.

Default Re: SES @ Nurbergring May 29th - June 1st

I was asked these question earlier and thought I share the answers with you all...

Are helmets required?
No. But I always wear one as do most people I know who are driving quickly. My attitude to wearing a helmet was cemented when I was one of the first on the scene to an accident involving a driver who didn't wear one, 'luckily' the injuries was superficial and he was fine in the end after a few stitches.

Hospitals nearby?
Yes, there's one in Adenau plus bigger ones in Mayen, Koblenz, Cologne, Bonn. The track is very well catered for in case of accidents and emergencies during races. To give you an idea, last year 3 air ambulances landed within 10 minutes of each other on the track, that wouldn't happen in many other villages let alone cities in England.

Kerbs on track?
Some kerbs you can ride, others avoid. It's easy to tell which.

Tyres?
RE070's are my tyre of choice so far. I find that the stronger sidewalls allow me to corner faster i.e. 140mph through the Fuchsrohle if I'm on a quick lap. Tyre life is good too.

R888's, I struggled with the correct track pressures in these. One of the guys from TimeAttack told me his pressures recently so I'll try them next time I get a set. Obviously these tyres have a high rate of wear. I destroyed a set of 4 in one week last summer.

Brakes?
Noobs have a habit of cooking brakes due to lack of circuit knowledge. They go flat out then brake as they are unsure of what corner is next. Start slow and build your speed up. Last year I had the owner of a 500bhp Evo running semi slicks come over to me in the car park asking what I had done to my car as he couldn't keep up... my car was completely standard at the time

Excuse the quality of the video but the guy driving the MX5 gives you an idea of how little braking is needed if you know the track.

Thanks again for the pointers.

I think most people are starting off with 8 lap tickets, would you suggest at least half of that is used to get a feel for it?

All this serious talk is depressing so to lighten the mood...

Applicable for all drivers only people's speeds through here differ greatly depending on size of balls. The fast drivers are taking the compression >150mph.

Now you know why my other car is a ZX. 168,000 and still going.

What a save though. it could only have been the curb that stoped them.

A good save there, shortly after he got back on he arrived at a tight left with a sand pit. Now that caught me out a treat. Very close to an off!

Ok I take that back. Some one managed to hit a high kerb and roll twice on the slowest corner on the track today

Yes there are companies that will hire performance cars for the track, we have a M3 CSL, GT3RS and GT3 Cup.

Don't expect it to be cheap and to be able to turn up and drive though. Performance cars like M3's cost 4 figures to hire for the day and have 5 figure excesses if you don't buy additional insurance.

The new Ring Ticket / lap ticket.

This an Oyster style card that replaces the old paper tickets. From the summer it can also be used to purchase goods as well as tickets.

I'm waiting for my season ticket through work so had to buy a lap ticket this morning, it's now a €22 drinks coaster on my desk.

No doubt a marketing idea to make people spend more money at NuroDisney

I was talking to Martyn on the way back from the RR. How many people have already got helmets? I haven't for 1!!!

What about getting a group buy on some open face black crash hats with a Bike shop somewhere?

If you fancy this idea, put your name on the list below:

No need to buy photos, you're welcome to take your own photo's or give me your camera and I'll take the group photo, no professional photographers. Once you're on the Trackwalk there are no hidden costs. It was just an idea I wish I had done last year when I went over with a group of friends and went on a Trackwalk.

Your first 50 laps or so is used for getting a feel for it

You've got 12.9 miles of constant corners, elevations, cambers and surfaces chances to remember.

8 laps will give you a good idea of the track and you can always buy more if you want.

I bet it takes at least that too!

Those first 4 or so laps I mentioned, it would be best to stay completely or as much as possible off the of racing line. Unless theres nobody about of course (yeah right )

You should in theory always drive on the right however if the track is clear then you can use the whole track and the racing line. In my opinion I'm neither slow nor fast and I stick to the racing line unless there's a GT3 trying to park in my boot.

Drive it you would a track but keep an eye on your mirrors as people have a habit of teleporting into your rear mirrors. Don't panic and make sudden moves, indicate and move to the right to let them past in a safe section.

The track is open 17:15-19:30 the friday evening you arrive. Pop in to the office and if I'm not busy I can give those that want it a lap in my Impreza and show them around the track.

I don't like taking rear passengers on track so it will only be my passenger seat available I'm afraid. Following me round is fine, it's a technique our instructors use.

So my passenger seat for the first 2 laps on Friday have been reserved already

What do you know about photography, are there snappers on site that we may be able to purchase oiccies from i.e from carosel etc...
No need to buy photos, you're welcome to take your own photo's or give me your camera and I'll take the group photo, no professional photographers. Once you're on the Trackwalk there are no hidden costs. It was just an idea I wish I had done last year when I went over with a group of friends and went on a Trackwalk.
Soz, slight mis-understanding....
I mean't during the weekend around the track.
Have found a few websites where they are obviously taking pics on specific days, just wondering if they are likley to be any around while we are there.
