thats why i asked,ive seen a few with it there,also i thought james grd showed me a pic once of one there,just interested in the best fitment place,as a mechanic(cossie nut)has offered me his as he owes me a favour,and is also supplying the fitments and fitting it,he asked me to find out where scooby owners felt its best fitment was as to look at the choices(jgm,he mentioned too about placement of the lines,allthough he has aviation hydrolic lines on it at the moment which could withstand very high temps externally without a rise inside)

Yeah i get what your saying, but you dont need the cooler from cold and by the time its upto temperature and you need it, the oil should be back in the cooler by then shouldnt it ?
or have i got it wrong as thats how ive always seen it, got me thinking of what you said tho about the oil draining

If this is any help ive seen them mounted to the right side of the f/bumper. Useing the spotlight position for air stream. One other mounted to the ns/iner wing & ducting from the spotlight area.

i had a new beetle 1.8t that was a AMD developement car (260 bhp)with a bigger turbo/intercooler.
that had an oil cooler on the passengers side front fog area too! but i have some pictures of subaru's with them in th OE intercooler space,taking all the cool air from the scoop(and they were race prep cars) maybe james will post on this.

My RA was built by Autosportif with no money spared and they didnt see fit to add a stat and the oil was in the mid 70's most of the time
My current newage has a full spec c oil cooler set up and they have seen the need to fit a stat, but at the mo it sits in the mid 70's unless sitting in traffic...

Can't see any point in not fitting a stat, the oil doesn't need cooling when its cold, its no different from the cooling system

Im guessing that as it was built purely for track use and having gauges in the car they didnt see it as a must

[QUOTE=MrX???;40824]Thats the point with where this thread has gone
theres a distinction to how each car is used, there no 'right or wrong' on a 'working car' like yours the cooling would be needed most of the time and as such probably negates the need for a 'stat'. The issue raised about where to fit it, is at best a pointless argument. So long as its fitted correctly in the location of choice there should be no issues. Its a shame we can't see where Chris has fitted his, because i'm sure by the response people are interested! The Zen ones fine the only 'issue' is the vibration one as its fixed to the engine and that was all i wanted to know lol,anyway thanks all for your input

Guys regarding oil coolers and mounting etc
The oil filter take off for the oil cooler is pretty much last in line before it returns to sump, so even if it does drain upon switch off there won't be any air 'pumped' round the engine becaus it is all post the high pressure side. (a bit like the oil return pipe from turbo, never sees the pressure you read on your gauge). Also the stat takeoff for the cooler is never fully closed when cold, it is partailly open always to allow some circulation. Another note CJ, I've just read whole thread, you have a 333 pump in tank already and it can be used as an external, so if you're happy with that then stick the 255 back in and use the 333 from swirlpot, no need to buy another pump |
#185
|
||||
|
||||
255 sold & pick up pipe cut to mount 333 hence the 044 type pump
P.s. yes i know the stat is never close but its not worth the chance

Not a performance enhancement this time but a performance safe gaurd
As the whole idea behind me buying a car for track days was behind me buying the scoob a swirl pot was in order before brands the first circuit of hopefully many ! so i got a pump houseing and set about putting -6 fitting on to it and the head ache of how to install swirl pot , bosch 044 pump and 30amp relay. this is what happened The idea behind the box is being able to through things in the boot with out and worry of things effecting the set up

Is that the fuel return going back into the swirlpot.
Is there a logical reason for this or can it just retrun direct to the tank. |
