Couldn't agree more.... hence I'm taking Claire & Ellie out there for a week at the end of July (as can't make the SES Ring trip in May).

Doubt i'll be on circuit as will be taking the diesel beemer, but will be visiting stuff and enjoying the scenery in the Moselle/Rhine valley. Ellie likes a castle or two as well, no shortage of them... Staying 2 mins from the Ring in a chalet/lodge place (Lindner Ferienpark Nürburgring).

We were going to go to Cornwall for the week but the accomodation in Germany looked better and half the price!

Hopefully, unfortunately all we can do is wait and see..

On a plus side it might be quieter this year.

I went to France on Wednesday & due to this bug The train over was light. On the way back it was so light it took 50 mins instead of the normal 35min. Hopefully no queuing when we get there. Hand gell, elbow bumps & give the customs guys a toilet roll job done
I’ve had my speed limiter removed so my passenger may need a bog roll or two YOUR

What's everyone's thoughts on breakdown cover then as last years and previous ones we find out that we are not covered if you go on track.

Has anyone found one that will cover you?.

It wasn't the being on track, it was if you broke down on-track.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but legally I believe the issue was (in the end), down to modification of vehicles.

Which that being said, any suggestions on breakdown cover for modified vehicles? 🤔

Note for all, as they have been clamping down in UK, even a non-standard exhaust is a modification, so not advised to dance on a risk-positive strategy (unless the cover is more than doubling down on cost?!)

I think the main issues are that:
- some breakdown companies would have an exclusion zone around the Ring, based on their assumption that you've broken your car by ragging it on track...
- If if they don't have an exclusion zone around the Ring, some admit to looking at Ring photos/social media accounts if you happen to break down nearby and then won't cover as the policy doesn't cover 'competitive' or track driving.
- Some will just refuse to cover modified cars, but only at the point of claiming when you most need help. When was the last time you saw the option to even specify modifications on a breakdown quote?

It's something i've thinking about as well as we'll be staying a few miles from the Ring in July, but won't be using TF. If i need breakdown cover, I fully expect to have an argument on my hands because I just happen to be staying down the road...

Thieving gits, all of them

Yeah I used AA last year but it came out that if you went on the ring you are not covered they look a the carmas etc for the ring and then it all kicked off from that, Sean knows more on it then me as hes been looking into it but I'm sure your not covered and was wasting money paying for it and can't use it.

I have been with ADAC for years,

I have just renewed my membership over the phone.

Unfortunately they are no longer taking new customers from the UK..

Yes mate I’m in a A45 AMG. Had a RS focus last year at the Ring good car but the engines are chocolate. Then bought a Golf R that lasted 7 days couldn’t get it around a decent corner + it drove itself. I’m sure the A45 will be ok there. You still got the bug?

One silver lining in all this virus stuff, fuel could be cheaper this trip if the prices remain they way they're going, 1.07/ltr for 98 over here now: https://www.rtl.lu/mobiliteit/petrolspraisser it's dropped around 30cents in over the last fortnight.

The A45 AMG will do fine round there, I had a good fun lap a few years ago chasing one for ages, although he just had the edge on me. A few bits of traffic let me close back up

I was with the aa breakdown and broke my gearbox near the ring. When it come to claiming they checked photos and noticed my car had been on the ring, change plates next time lol.

It wasnt declared as modified as it wasn't a option.

Also it said in the terms that it has to have all the service stamps done, I'm sure not many people have that because we all maintain are cars are selfs, well I do anyway.

They will always find something if they don't want to pay up.

I hope you all have a good trip

I believe it's initially for 30 days, but with the possibility to extend if necessary. Lots of countries putting time lines on events/suspension of travel ,etc ,but we are all going into the unknown. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Quite obviously our trip is not looking good !!.

Those of you that have paid deposits will get a full refund.

For those that have already booked Eurotunnel

I have copied the following email which explains your position with Eurotunnel

Standard Tickets

You can amend your booking for free up to 24 hours before your departure time, if you’re travelling in the same direction and we have space available (you will have to pay the difference if the new ticket is more expensive, but there will be no amendment fees). Most ticket types have a full year from date of original purchase to be used. You can amend your booking here: My Eurotunnel

Flexiplus Tickets

As well as being amendable our Flexiplus tickets are fully refundable too. Travel to be completed within 1 calendar year of the date of original purchase.

Our service is operating as normal and our ticket terms and conditions can be found here.

Bookings made with Tesco or other discount vouchers

If you have purchased a ticket in full or part using a Tesco or other discount voucher, please contact us by phone to amend your booking.

If it proves impossible to continue our (as looks likely) trip.

I will be looking at going later on in the year.

If all else fails we can hang onto the Eurotunnel tickes until next year and go then provided its with in a year of the previously booked trip.

So now its a case of fingers crossed and wait and see.

Best regards

Ian

There is an EU meeting on the 15th May that will decide things,
we can only live in hope??

If we cant go in May we still have a years grace on the Eurotunnel bookings.

No chance of May happening Ian i'm afraid. Even if they allow hotels to open, there won't be freedom of movement at borders, international travel will be limited to work/essential purposes only for a while I expect. Germany have done a better job than us of limiting the death toll, partly due to much more extensive testing. The last thing they're going to do is open the doors to thousands of Brits coming over potentially carrying it - we're looking to be one of the worst affected European countries alongside Italy, Spain & France.

I'm booked for a week out there at the end of July - 3 months away this week. I'm doubtful we'll be allowed to travel for that...

I've written off the possibility of all international travel for 12 months or so. I'll pay for my holiday next week and as soon as they cancel it I'll reschedule for next summer.
Going to be a summer of bbqs in the garden with the family.

I guess Ian is just voicing what we are all hoping that life will begin to get better. Of course it's going to take time, but the latest figures give some signs of hope. Once we are back to normal I think we should have a weekend meet ,with accommodation so alchol can be consumed. Stay safe everybody.

Restrictions are changing all the time.

So from 18th May, hotels in Germany are allowed to accept tourists and not just business travellers.

Still have the problems of:
- masks having to be worn anywhere in the Nurburgring area (apart from in the car)
- no passenger swapping allowed for laps
- no spectators in the main viewing areas
- car parks closed, main paddock at GP circuit opened for 'socially distanced' parking between laps.
- at the moment, the borders from Belgium/France are still closed to non-essential traffic
- no idea if restaurants will allow people to sit inside as normal after this date, or whether they will all still be takeaway only.

If you're short of masks, try these on for size

Yeah the borders to Germany are still pretty much closed anything but essential or cross-border workers with papers. The surrounding countries are all complaining about it, even the border towns all flying flags at half-mast in protest.

Then there's the "border" between the UK and France, and I don't see that one being opened any time soon considering the situation in the UK and France not having had a had good time of it either and wanting to make it worse again.

My feeling from chatting to my friend across the border in Germany is that, yes they may open things up more in time for the trip, but it's not going to be very "open" as we're finding from the restrictions around the Ring and will make for a rather joyless trip. I would think postponing until after the summer is the best option.

Thanks you for your post Steve and Ferd

I am in constant contact with all those on the list.

This is a fast moving situation with what seems to be daily changes.

It will be very interesting to see what Borris says on Sunday.

However..

I had a long conversation/discussion with Frank (the hotelier) yesterday.

on his advice I have decided to POSTPONE this years trip.

For the following reasons: (which obviously could change)

At the moment the borders are effectively shut (which could change)

There will be no public viewing or car parks open such as Brunchen.

No groups of more than 2 or any other meetings

You will have to sign in to any venue you go into pubs, cafe and restaurants. so they can trace you or notify you if you have been close to any contamination.

The place is going to be overrun with the police, the speeding rules and fines have recently changed and they are looking closely at any modded cars.

Masks will have to be worn.

So the days of sitting outside and enjoying a few beers watching the world go by are not happening yet, may be later in the year.

I cant quote what Frank said, but what sums it up is: there is no point in coming because of all these fooking rules and police will spoil your fun!!

So what I am proposing is to go on the weekends of

September 11th to 14th.
or
October 2nd to 5th. (this is Green Hell weekend the weekend after VLN )

What are your thoughts please ?

Both dates are ok with me, although that still depends on my manager approving them.
