Very true. Only problem is that some of the classic Ford's seem to go for silly money these days - I can't believe how much the price of Mk.1 and Mk.2 Escorts has shot up (and is continuing to do so).

Agree 100%, one and main reason I haven't jumped back into a classic ford. A different Marque but I do find myself trawling through early VW adverts at the moment, and MK1/MK2 GTI's are relatively good value for a similar era 80's classic. And arguably the less rusty and more reliable option..

Found a couple of pics of my last Saph which was only about 7 years ago. Pics dont do it justice it was a proper mint Saph. Wished I had kept it - It would be worth more now than it was then.





And an earlier moonstone blue I Had

And can't resist putting up this which is another car I wished I had kept as it also would be worth about 5K more now than it was about 6-8 years ago.

no the best ford 4 me was my mk2 escorts the 1st 1 was a
1300 L & then come a 1600 sport & then 1600 mexico & them the daddy rs 2000 god i wish i still ad the mexico i love that car 2 bits

My old Cosworth lives on.
I sold it back in 2001 with a BBR Stage 1 (270BHP), it's now sporting just under 600BHP !!!!!!!!

Here's my old '98 Ford Cougar!

Zetec 2.0 16v but I'd done a few things and had her just over 170bhp

She was my pride and joy for over 7 years!

Did lots of things over the years, but this was how i liked her the most!

I had em all ,,, mk1 1300e escorts were boss ,, had two ,, a black and a purple ,,, about ten xr2s ,, six or seven xr3 ,, a mk2 turbosystems escort rs turbo with green tiger graphics ( came like that) ,, and i also bought a fiesty fly as a barn find about five years ago ,, lol xr2 convertible

I came very very very very close to buying this 2 weeks ago.
The scoob was as good as sold, all apart from money exchanging and V5's being signed.
All I had to do was go view the Turbo and decide Yes/No.
After a sleepless night I bailed out before the drive up to Warwick to view.

wow....what was the spec of that Scott?


btw my one and only Ford was a series 2 Rs turbo in red...E reg I think. The only car I have had and found had been clocked.

Must have been tempted. You must have chuckled then when I mentioned last week going around a ford fair!

I still get very tempted by escorts, mk 2 cortina 1600e'S and even the odd vw split. I think ideally though I need to do one of those as well as the scoob!

Lovely s1 but the only problem is they don't drive as nicely as the impreza s.
I did this went from my v3 sti back to s2 rst with some choice mods but just felt saggy in comparison.

That was a bit special and very very nice. Suprised you bailed out as it would have been a proper garage queen and complimented the Leon nicely. Love scoobs but only ever give the nicest examples a glancing look, but would be proper rubber knecking if I saw that S1 on the road.

But bet that S1 didnt come cheap...

Price wasn't too bad considering condition/work done. I had seen similar priced ones that were clean but not so well prepared as this one.

The one big thing that turned me away was that none of it would of been my own work. So whenever in discussion about it I would always be referring to the spec sheets that I had no say in and to what previous owners had done.......and for me that's just so against the grain. With the Scoob I know every nut'n'bolt and modification.

The thought of wind up windows, no power steering and then recalling the memories of CV joint, CV gaiter, Wheel bearing, Alternator, Start motor issues/chores with all my previous Fords was also off-putting.

You forget how reliable newer cars are, and 'fingers crossed' most of the things I have done to the Scoob have been done through preference rather then necessity.
I can't say the same for all my previous Fords 'but I still loved em'.

I Get the thing about not being your own, and haven't put your stamp on it.

But the feel of how the car drives and the back to basics thing to me would be the appeal, much the same with all classics. You could spend 100K+ on an old Ferrari and it would feel dreadful and be unreliable compared to any modern car. But it would feel very 'special' and give you a real 'sense of occasion' when you drove it.

A S1 or any of the 80's classics will never match up to a modern sorted scoob as a balls out performance car, but as a toy and weekend car, and something that you will only likely see once or twice a year on the road in any given one year would make the car allot more special than even the best of scoobs....

Scoob are a hard act to follow especially now that clean sorted scoob are also now starting to fall into the category of a 'classic'. But would still love an old ford or classic 80's hot hatch.

The only answer mate is to sell the Leon use the scoob as a daily driver parked up on the drive and get a S1 for the garage...

Finally found a scan of a photo of my RS1. Few days after I got it. I pulled all the non standard bits off. Used to clean behind the bumpers!

Maidstone council made it go missing one day ( long story )
