Default ECU upgrade

I'm thinking about upgrading the ecu on my 1994 Sti v1 to a mappable one, can anyone recommend a good one to get? Also would mine be a 3 or 4 plug ecu?

Hadn't thought that far ahead, not too expensive, I've just bought a front mount intercooler and I've read up that you need a mapped ecu to be able to run it?

If you're going front mount and remappable ecu you might as well get some injectors and a fuel pump.

Can't help with which ecu tho. I'm jealous!

ECU upgrades aren't cheap, but well worth it.

Its a must if you are going to mod the engine in any way

Even though my ecu has been chipped? If I was to fit all these bits to my car will it still be ok without a ecu upgrade?

All depends on what the chip has been programmed for.

I had the same mods on my scoob, didn't have it mapped and it always overfulled and ran rough

From what I understood with those mods on the TD05 turbo could be around 350bhp. I wouldn't hold me to that though.

When you've got it all done you'll have to take me out in it!!

1. ESL Phase 2 Live mapping board £295 + £200-£250 for mapping
2. Apexi PFC £450 approx 2nd hand (as discontinued and cannot get new) + £200-£250 for mapping
3. Simtek approx £1000 fitted and Mapped
4. Simtex with Anti-lag/Launch Control approx £1200 fitted an mapped

To get decent gains out of any of those you will need at least :

440cc injectors and FPR, or 550cc injector
3 bar map sensor

For the sake of £70 a Walbro 255 Fuel Pump is also recommended.

Without the 3 bar map sensor you are limited to around 1.2bar, upto approx 310BHP max.
With the 3 bar and injectors on the TD05 turbo you can run 1.4/1.5 bar, upto 340/350BHP

All the above assumes the car is already decatted and running improved induction filtration.

Awesome cheers for that! By doing just the fuel pump, injectors and map sensor would that make a difference?

you cant simply change those things (apart from the f/pump) unless your ECU is able to control them and re-calibrated to suit

As Alyn has said.

Also, and often a misconseption, more fuel does not equal more power.
If you do the above it will run rich and loose power and the map sensor will cause the boost to be uncontrolled.

Think about it ..........
what happens if you open a door to a room that's on fire ?
you get a sudden increase in fire intensity/backdraft/explosion
Have you added any more fuel ?? no just air.

what does a Turbo do ??? a controlled version of the above.
the fuel is only there for the initial ignition, then to cool and lubricate. when increasing power its only there for additional cooling and lubrication required for the bigger bang.

Esl boards in stock

The early cars vary a lot on actual power figures but plenty to gain having it mapped.
