boost issue
On my95 wrx have a bleed valve that has been fitted from the compressor housing to the actuator but will not change the boost what ever i wind it to still hittting 0.8-.9bar but last nite i span the the pipes round incase they were the wrong way round, wound the screw all the way in. started to come on boost and it went to 1.bar before i shut off so swapped it back round and again back to 0.8ish
any ideas why i cant control the boost? mods are only full 3in system, hks filter, walbro, full reg. and iam having it mapped on my power fc but cant raise the boost to 1.1bar so need this sorted to before i can get it mapped This is the one ive fitted,http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Manual-Boost-C...ht_3195wt_1336 at the mo the wastegate goes to the bottom and the compressor housing in the side Last edited by scooby doo; 03-11-2010 at 09:22 AM. |

not come across that style before but he reckons on full techy back up so why not use it.............
most Dawes type valves boost harder the less thread is visible; either your winding the wrong way / its jammed / or installed wrong?? pics might help

Sounds/lookes like a dawes type valve and fitted the wrong way round i.e the more boost you provide the more is is closing the ball valve.
It need to be the other way round so the boost blows the valve open and bleeds some away from the actuator. Looking at the picture and position of the adjustment, the ball/spring is in the top horizontal part. so you need to connect the turbo outlet the oposite end to the adjuster. You may also find that the bottom of the 'T' outlet very small hole in it i.e about 0.5-1mm. This end should be actuator end. This is there to prevent boost spike..........my this takes me back to the days of Dawes valves, ScoobySport backboxes and 250BHP..... what you have done by turning your pipes around is put it the correct way round, but by winding the adjustment right in the ball/spring valve is fully open, so the actuator is seeing little or no pressure hence the very quick and very dangerous boost spool. Loosen the adjustment until the screw nearly falls out, then lock it off. Try it and the slowly increase the adjustment until you hit about 1.0bar, no more until you get the PFC mapped. |
