Default whats the pipe?

Whats the pipe that runs from centre of underside (near the downpipe) and runs across to drivers door then forward into engine bay??
Mine looks coroded wanted to know what it is???

Doesnt smell of fuel so not sure what it is some of it is rigid and some of it is rubber any ideas?

according to other forums its a charcoal cannister breather,
Is this a problem that needs urgent attention ?

I seem to recall seeing thread ages ago regarding one of these things, something to do with absorbing fuel vapour I believe.....dunno whether they are a necessity though!
