When I am pulling away from a stand still or parking up I get a huge amount of people looking at my car with a cringing expression as they hear a very evident rattling noise.
Even at shows, events & meets when surrounded by the public or fellow petrol heads I hear so many guys softly saying to there mates things like:- "Car looks nice but sounds like a bag of spanners under the bonnet" "Ere, he has a serious engine rattle going on in the engine" "When was the last time he checked his oil" I had the same thing yesterday when a young guy accompanied by a Ferrari cap and a bunch of ill looking mates said to me "Wicked lookin motor dude, but the engine don't sound to clever" I replied "Nor do you mate, it's the triple plate clutch that you can hear" |

what clutch you got mate? in the rex i had a racing clutch and it made a rattle/metal scraping noise when it was depressed, people gave me the same looks and kept on saying is it ment to sound like that? then there was a jap meet at pp once and there was a supra there with the same clutch making the same noise, but again people said the same things.
the clutch was it just dosent make a very appealing noise |

Hi Andy. There is no getting away from the rattle. All triple plate clutches & most twin plate set ups are meant to rattle when clutch is depressed ![]() This is my current clutch. AP organic with the RCM hydraulic Release Bearing kit. ![]() ![]() |

It does make people look a bit.
![]() I have got a rattle at low revs too, always have had. But I have only got a single plate organic clutch. I always put it down to piston slap, which was really bad during the recent cold weather. On just normal tickover it sounds fine, but when ijn gear and pulling away it rattles. |

Bet it does make people look, i would too. It takes a true car mod nut to appreciate what some of the noises are. I still remember my mum when she first heart a dump valve. She thought i had killed the car
My old exhaust was too loud to here any rattles |

Your dead right there Chunky regarding knowing what certain noises are. Very few car nuts are aware of multi plate clutch rattles?. I guess it's because one does not hear it too many times on the street. When in the pits at race events it's a very common sound. The same thing applies to top end gear boxes. I very nearly had RCMs sequential box put in mine but it would have produced a constant loud whining noise & driven me nuts on long runs. Mind you it's a babe of a box just pulling it back every time to change up & banging it forward to change down. My car does need one to be honest. You live on the box when driving Harry Flatter's with 560 Bhp & it's VERY easy to select the wrong gear when down shifting!! |
