Worzels SLaG... not quite there yet!
After another day at Surrey Rolling Road with Simon (Jolly Green Monster), the SLaG is not there yet. We have eliminated a good part of the restriction by going de-cat and have got up to 370bhp & 380ft/lb. And yes.... it was a fun drive home.
Next (and hopefully final) stop for this year, tubular headers and the march to the figure I have been chasing (bullet proof 400bhp / 420ft/lb) should be complete for this year. CJ on the other hand, had some cracking figures, 3rd time lucky You'll be impressed when he gets the numbers up for sure, I was. Once again, thanks for the help yesterday Chris , top man! .......and also for bleeding all over the place in the name of my lack of knowledge. Cheers matey. |

Headers now ordered from Mark @ Lateral, with the new "Harvey" up-pipe!
Happy days........... but with a dented credit card. Ouch! |

It does feel good, going to enjoy the weekend in it and get the headers done ASAP. They turn up Monday / Tuesday.

Still nice figures Steve. Not too far off where you want to be. Out of interest, how does it feel compared to the M3?

Compared to the M3, it feels properly quick. The M3 is a more refined, smooth kind of power, where as the scoob is full on smack you in the mouth here I am kind of power.
One thing I would say Steve, is the gains I got by 3" decatting with possibly the same again with the headers, I would consider that route first if you still want to do something. Then get Simon to re-map it with Charlie. So.......... Which Power do I prefer? SCOOBY POWER! |

Not bad figures there Steve, i'm sure your'll get what you want in the end. As said before i'm surprised they didn't recommend headers on the rebuild.

You are not alone there. Considering Vince pretty much had a Carte Blanche with the re-build, it is a surprise that it didn't happen.
That's a proper downside to not being mechanically minded too. A lot of people on here would probably done it, knowing it would restrict things, I always go on what the experts tell me. It'll teach me to listen to the people on here who know what they are talking about. At least 6 of you said about headers. Oh well and all that. The only good things is that I am spreading the cost a little bit |

Mmmmm i was expecting more power than that? I did find however when i put the Harvey headers on with his up-pipe it did make a differance that you could feel straight away. Considering they are only the oe ones ported {not the up-pipe} for the money i was very pleased. In the defence of Vince he is a very very good mechanic not a tuner. He took the advice of RCM = Olly but i agree going for 450ish horses headers should of been speced.

Thats still an awesome amount of power!
What spec is your build? Just incase i have forgotten something on mine!! Cheers. |

Mate, you know how I feel about Vince, he is a top bloke and a fookin good mechanic. And yes, he was directed totally by Olly on the parts list. I find it amazing that Olly said stick with the sport cat and standard headers! With my very limited hindsight, it's all too easy to point fingers, when in reality I am a very happy bunny. I know that I will end up with what I wanted very soon, a bulletproof 400bhp scooby. My comments are basically based on my own lack of knowledge in these matters, if I had half the knowledge of some of the guys on here it would have all been done in one foul swoop. But I don't have that kind of mechanical know how. Greig I am putting a spec list together and will post it shortly in the Members Car Profiles section. So keep an eye open for that, if you want I could PM it to you just in case you miss it? |

Or Vince didnt tell him it was all oe spec sounds more like it . Never mind mate your not far off what you wanted. 400 + on your next visit should not be a problem |

The only thing going with the headers is you lose the flat 4 low rumble , it's the one main thing i miss about my car now and have considered going back to standard headers but i would lose power

steve. Are you still running a standard air box, if so that will be limiting the power a fair bit. Ditch it for the rcm kit or the apexi power intake. It gave me 25hp on 300hp so could quite possibly get u close to your target. The 2.5 respond well to the change due to the greater air demand.

Very good point Scott.
Just when you thought the spending had stopped Mr Worzel. Cant wait to get a ride in yours and CJ's Steve, you gotta do a project write up some time for sure |

Cheers Scott, will look into getting that done for sure.
When I have got the first part done (just headers and apexi air intake to get done now) I will do a final spec and report, along with a nice set of figures hopefully. |

Be careful with the Apexi as i think it be at it limit
|
#29
|

Not sure what the limit is of the apexi, I think the limit is more likley to be the induction hose then the filter.
I have seen the Apexi work well on both a 2.5 and 2.0. On Duekboys 2.0 and 18G it flows the highest of all filters I have witnessed. It defo flows well on mine an Injector (IDC) went from 94 to over 100%, so had to wind the fuel pressure up 0.2bar to cope. |

Apexi is only good for 381bhp so will be a waste of money steve

For whats its worth my classic with the 2.5 20g at the time put out 340bhp/373lt/lb and was always hoping for more. But that was on a stanard airbox and panel filter. As soon as I put the apexi cone filter on, it made a huge difference. As said the Apexi is small though and can imagine the 380 being about the limit on it.

Apexi Power Intake - there is not one to fit newage and it is a restriction above 350 so woiuld actually be worse. The car is still on the tmic and therefore the airbox works very well as supplying cold air rather than engine bay air.. Simon |

the induction from CJ's car would probably see an improvement in power but not a reliable and consistent one imho.. needs fmic with induction

Hi Simon
Brilliant to see you here for starters! Next year will see the FMIC and induction + new Simtek dual map for sure, as long as I can get close to the 400 mark this year, I'll be a happy bunny. Car is in having headers and "Harvey" up-pipe done today, also doing a compression test, just as a check. Happy (but foooookin expensive) days. |

With regard to the Apexi, they do one for the newage as Dukeboy has one and it comes with a MAF intake pipe. Not sure about the restriction above 350BHP as Rob's 2.5 literally came alive when the we swapped from airbox to Apexi. I drove it in both states and it was a completley different. One was the drive home from the RR on the standard airbox and you could feel the torque drop away above 5500rpm. With the Apexi it pulled well through to rev limit.. |
