Ej20 short block compatibility
Hi all,
So I have my 1993 WRX @127k miles. Have owned for nearly 3 years now and I'm trying to prepare for an eventual bottom end failure. The car is used for fast road, some track and is also my daily driver during summer. My idea is to get a cheap ( possibly knocking) used short block, spend some time refreshing it and when the day comes I can hopefully do a straight forward short block swap. I'm hoping by preparing and gathering parts early I would save money IF my current engine gives out. My question is if I can't find a V1-V2 s.block then can most EJ20 short blocks be mated to my 93 heads? I know the timing belt tensioner is different on the later models. |

the timing tensioner is simply a bolted on plate that can be swapped or re-used depending on what you wnat to do...........
in terms of engine spec it would all depend on what power target or mods you were planning (if any?) as the original hydraulic tappet heads can be problematic and are best replaced with the later MY97/98 solid shim type (ideally the v.rare STi under-bucket option) later blocks can be used by playing with compression ratios / headgasket,. etc

Ah so I guess compression ratio is something I need to take into account and possibly upgrading the tappets. |
