Question for the knowledgeable
Hi everyone.
My question is, If you re-shell a subaru uk car into a, lets say an sti shell, does my car then become an sti ? Reason im asking is my 1997 uk turbo bodywork is starting to look a bit worse for wear (dreaded tinworm). Rear arches, Top and bottom of rear screen, Top of front screen. Just wondering if it would be better to get it fixed or re-shell. But if i do re-shell, does my cars identity change ? Thanks Dave |

The cars identity is based upon the VIN number, so the body of the car, which will then be an Sti if putting your running gear in to it, will have a VIN number suggesting an Sti and would be registered as an Sti I presume.

Reshelling used to cause the vehicle to be re-registered on a 'Q' plate but I'm not sure if that is still executed.

"Q" was generally only where there was some previous issue with proving the ID........
as long as you dont try and disguise or alter the donor shell ID in any way then there should be no issue with using the correct reg & docs to match
