Mini drive
A friend turned up to go to a car meet on Sunday and instead of going in the Scoob went in his 1970s mini , which I drove. Got to say, once I got used to the long gear change, lack of brakes and the fact you were sitting on the floor, I really enjoyed it. Brought back some happy memories.

Im very tempted to get an old mini they are so much fun and a really cheap way to own a classic car.

I'd love another one but it's not a practical second car for me, it's bad enough having to commute in the Scoob if I have problems with my daily, the idea of 100 mile round trip in a classic mini in the middle of winter fills me with horror. If I could justify a 3rd car then I'd love one, ideally a pick up, I know you can squeeze just about any engine in them now but a 1340 with a huge carb that makes almost as much noise as the exhaust would be great. Wouldn't be re-living my youth with this colour or that hair!!!

Like you Steve I'm now thinking of getting one just for a fun drive, but definitely wouldn't want it as a daily drive!

Cheap'ish' to buy. Wont lose any value, cheap to run, easy to repair and good fun. Ticks all the boxes really. I was looking last night and there are loads about. Just need to avoid rust!.

Along with many others I had one of these as my first cat 1976 vintage in a rather fetching burgundy colour. Loved it went in one a few years back have never been so terrified in my life. Forgot just how small they really are compared with everything else nowadays

I have happy rose-tinted memories of proper Minis too. We had one that was on unleaded, and another that was still on 4 star. The leaded one would wheelspin going into 3rd! Also possibly the best car for Cornish backroads, if you know the right bits of road they can overtake pretty much anything.
Having said that, I suspect it would be quite a shock to drive one nowadays. At least once my Isetta is finished it won't be going fast enough to be scary!
