The mini thingy...
Thought I'd put little thread up..
Bought this very recently after a long string of nothing but bad luck with motors , came from a friends parents so I knew it's history and was offered to me the day I sold the Vxr that I had planned to track. I plan to build something that I can use on track from time to time , and not break the bank. I know very little about them and what or doesn't work on them. So the 1st thing is fully service the car. De chrome the thing as full of stuck on plastic chrome.. Here is how I picked it up... So I removed all the tat . Fitted a aero grill set from BMW. The car needed a new cat back but this was a pain as most mini systems are to loud and dont meet track db . So with this as a huge thing that has to be right. I managed to find a system that has 3silencers that's very quiet and good freeflowing, jetex is the brand and very impressed with it. I had used a jetex full system on one of my wrx's with same results. Fitted a GTT stealth airbox so looks oem but has a JR induction fitted inside and new direct feed to help and keep induction roar down. The air feed draws air from the scuttle panel area with is sealed away from the bay , it's basically a copy of what the gp cars used. A set of 17in team dynamics came up so had them but days later a set of silver 16x7 pro race popped up wrapped in 595 rsr and I couldn't not as knew it would be better on smaller wheels so these are on now. So this is how it sits (high) now lol. Coilovers are on my list but trying to reasearch what works on these and what doesn't .. This brings me to the todo list Oil and filter Sump plug Gearbox oil Plugs Braided lines Super blue ate Grooved discs Pads Powerflex engine and box mounts , A crank seal Rocker cover gasket and stupid expensive rocker cover bolts I didn't want to out and go mad just yet as not had any real driving time to address areas that may need more attention so I've taken a refresh approach till I can get some track time in.. Future plans .. coilovers so can loose this 4x4 look Reduce the charger pulley For more boost GRS or airtec cooler Adjustable rear arms I imagine some better calipers and pad combo Seats too So that's where I'm at now ... I didn't like these when they came out, but I've warmed to them greatly.
I've seen a few take off like a scolded cat, so they seem capable. I'll watch this with interest. |

I had one of these . 17% pulley and remap should be good get a 54 plate or later supercharger though as they are teflon coated

Nice looking little car, I bet a lightly fettled one of these goes nicely on track. The Cooper S has a large following for both supercharged and turbo charged models so imagine parts and info is readily available out there. A couple of friends of mine have had S versions in the past, they said the engines like to consume a bit of oil but I guess that all depends on how hard they are driven.

You've got Sussex Road and Race in Littlehampton if you need parts/advice etc.

Cracking little car. Great in that colour too. I love these and plan to get one as a workhorse for the days the RS is tucked up in the garage. That is if the RS ever arrives

Cheers chaps , wasn't a car I was after but was just a 90second walk from home and not to expensive ,
I did quick search before buying as looked the turbo versions as they look cool and not better built but the engines are pretty poor, a lot of faults with them, but the old supercharged version semen to be simple little things but very robust . I can't believe how well they take to tunning , been told /internet searches show a pulley reducer 15% with cat back and filter gains fetch 210-215hp I think there's a lot that available depending on budget , I will say the build quality is not bmw and little rattley inside . Need some track time asap and see what I can do from that . |

Decided to up the power a tad on this thing.
On this generation of mini (supercharged) you swapp the supercharger pulley to create more boost so I had planed on doing a 15% pulley as max you can go really on stock intercooler but after a rethink I thought may aswell go little further and ordered a 17% reduction pulley with smaller belt. Now this needs a larger intercooler to reduce heat , after much looking about on the net I've gone for the tried and tested Air tech tmic You can see the difference in size and thickness Il be getting the pulley fitted asap . Can expect around a 50hp gain from these too when combined with the filter and exhaust but will do a r/r to really see if these claims are true.. Suspension is on the cards but much more research is needed on that . |
