Tips for cleaning MAF?
There isn't a CEL, but I've come to the decision the MAF sensor could do with a clean - notably a lumpy idle when hot.
For example, I stopped earlier to pop in to pick something up at the shops, only parked for 5 or so minutes. Restarted the car and it began to idle lumpy, but all stopped as I began to pull away, was fine from then on. It's a '02 Bugeye, if that helps. I'm just after some tips from a trusted forum for giving it a clean up, as I don't fancy a £300 replacement for messing it up! Cheers, EDIT TO ADD - I've read through the performance filter thread, I'm running a K&N panel filter - I wonder if there's been some oil contamination from it being over-oiled? I'll be servicing my car soon, so opting for a Cosworth panel filter instead, just in case. Last edited by Hrimfaxi; 29-01-2017 at 03:27 PM. |

I usually use WD40 - Electrical contact cleaner on mine.

And it isn't the exposed electrodes i'm after, is it? It's the enclosed part?
I'm guessing it's best to just let it air dry? |

Same as Nick, I use electrical contact cleaner and a clean microfibre. I did this job just yesterday and removed the K&N for a Cosworth dry filter. I have cleaned the sensor 3 times since running the K&N and every time it ends up coated in a dark, mucky film.

Thanks! That's confirmed my thoughts to bin the K&N..
Is it best to dis-connect the negative terminal on the battery when doing this? Sorry for all the questions haha. |

I simply unplugged the MAF and removed it.
