What classic is it? Very early jap ones shared alot of parts. Best bet is to put a photo of the vin plate up.

Think that number is just a serial number and as such IIRC don't think it helps much with what engine it will be.....

You can do the normal visual checks for open / closed deck etc etc

there is normally (if its still in one piece or there at all) a sticker with the engine details on one of the plastic covers

don't think the JDM engines had any form of engine numbers on them

ALL Subaru's have an engine number its simply that a lot of importer's didn't take the time or had no clue as to the location........

v1-2 wrx/sti is same engine.
Ra has different pistons

Sorry the car is a wrx. Face lift classic ...0n the engine i have a front entry vf22 turbo and sti inter cooler on the car these are the only things I can say point to a possible sti engine couple of guys say yes it is sti and one guy said no it's not a red top ..I will try to do more searching to find out I no the guy I bought it from assures me it is sti ...he was reluctant to sell and would not budge on price... I don't mind if it's not sti I love the drive and I'm enjoying it VERY much��. If I find any tell tale signs I will post here

i'd imagine that externally it is difficult to tell.
