Default Remote key distance

Can anyone help me as to why my remote keys
Distance of use is virtually right next to the car to work now.
Is there a trick to getting them back to how they were.
I have a 2003 wrx blob
With keypad #* on right of steering wheel.
Any help would be appreciated as 1 key no longer operates the locking even though it has a fresh battery.

Does it act like that everywhere you park?

Putting it up to your chin to act as an ariel is the only 'trick' i know to extend range.

Yes where ever I park I need to be around 4 foot away.
Just reprogrammed the keys so at least both are working now.
Just would like to get the distance back so if anyone knows please feel free to give me advice lol.
