Stuck doing ECU reset on Classic Turbo 2000 Impreza
Hi all,
I'm trying to reset the ECU on my MY00 Impreza Turbo 2000. I've got as far (not far at all) as connecting the black&black and green&green connectors under the dash. The guide then says to turn the ignition on (assuming two clicks), press the accelerator down, then release it half way until the check engine light turns on. Problem is that once I've connected the connectors and turned the ignition on, the check engine light is ALREADY on, along with the rest of the usual ignition lights. Is that expected? Also, the radiator fan keeps cycling through off, half speed and full speed, a few seconds each. Don't know if that's normal or not. I'm sure I've connected the right connectors as I've checked a few different threads and all have the pictures matching the connectors I'm using. Does this sound familiar to anyone? |

Doesn't leaving the battery off for 30mins or more reset the ecu on these?
Im sure someone will be along shortly to confirm or deny

Yes that sounds spot on.
Whilst it's doing that go for a short drive. Boost will be limited during the process but once it's finished it's self diagnosis the engine light should flash constantly with equal length flashing. If there are short and long flashes this is an error code. Disconnect black and green connections when done. |

I tried this already, held the brake pedal down to make sure there was no residual charge and then left the battery off for the night, however still not absolutely sure it's worked (it may well have) so wanted to do it the proper way..

on a classic the sure fire way of clearing the ECU is to simply take the battery off for 20-30mins.............
when you re-fit connect the Black single connectors and check the codes and if its still there then there is a permanent fault - ignore the Green double connectors for this process
