Rolling road/garage West Sussex
Hi guys,
Looking at a proper map and some other work to be done on my new bug eye. Any recommendation on garages/workshops close to me in Horsham west sussex? I used Austec Racing in Crawley once and to be honest i wasnt that impressed with what happened there. They seem a nice enough bunch but i wasn't happy with the work they done! |

Most on here would vouch for Surrey Rolling Road in Farnborough - Charlie is a great guy...
And Duncan @ Racedynamix (www.racedynamix.co.uk) is down there most Thurs and Fri... Just mapped my bug... Ryan

Surrey Rolling Road.
Charlie who runs it is a scoob specialist and I wouldn't go anywhere else...worth the drive to use someone who knows what they're doing with these cars! |

Yep, Charlie and Duncan for all RR and mapping duties. As for garages to do the work, not sure what's around your area but a lot use SMD in Newhaven or Stuart at Sussex Mobile Sevices. Have a look through the site sponsors and recommendations sections.

thanks chaps.
I had Austec map by ST TDCI and it just wasnt right. Took them hours to fit the intercooler too. Kept taking the map off sending it to someone they tweaked it put it on took it off sent it away again. |

As above.
I always use SMD (Southern Motor Developments in Newhaven, as do many others on here) Get all the parts (ie exhausts, fuel pumps etc) you want on fitted first, make sure the car is generally running well with no loose pipes, clips etc and then you are good to go. It should just be a case of on the rollers, a mapping session, maybe a quick tweak on the road and happy days. You see so many go to get mapped and the car isn't 100% before hand which just delays things while they are put right. or its a wasted journey. Just remember if you change any major exhaust parts to drive there off boost until its mapped

Yeah don't go fitting it all and forgetting to drive off boost and racking up 1.8 bar by mistake - that would be silly

I just had my blob eye remapped by Duncan at SRR. Very happy with the results (325bhp from a wrx) so would recommend!
As for general work, I use japperformanceparts in Crawley. Not too far from you. Seem to know their stuff, take pride in their work and aren't extortionate. |

325 from a WRX - WOW... Duncan is good !
Amazing result that considering my STi only pushed 330bhp!

It won't have made that power without mods, its probably got the same turbo/injectors as you and a decat/sportscat exhaust

Been looking at various places and people recommend fitting the Walbro uprated fuel pump too.
From what i can see it looks like £70 for a new pump, £350ish for VF35 turbo, £150iah for pink injectors. How much do you think it would cost to fit these mods by a garage, and have it mapped to bring them in? Looking for around 320 bhp. |

I have a almost new walbro 255 pump for sale that came off my bug when I broke it. Think it did about 2000 miles max.

All good in the end though as spotted before it went bang and all that power without getting his hands too dirty. |

When you change it you'll be removing the EGT sensor in the uppipe which will throw an engine light. All it needs is a resistor bridged across the plug to fool the ECU into thinking all is fine. If you want one of them, I've got a load spare (I had to buy them in a minimum quantity of 20 for about £4 online years ago) |

going to have to root through a million bits of paperwork that came with the car. Two owners from new, and every not and bolt extra has a receipt!
When you say i need to add a resistor on to trick the ECU, where is this located? Do you have any pics? |

Then trim the resistor legs down to the right length to shove into the plug on the loom side: Found those pic on google, mines the same except i've taped the connector up so water can't get in. Been fine like that for 6 or 7 years The resistor has to be the right rating, think its 2.2k ohms. |

It can also be mapped out anyway in the remap.

Can it? Scott mapped out the misfire CEL that the bugs always throw on mine but it still comes back...

I had the CEL mapped out in my first remap with the decat up-pipe, this was on ECUTek but I assume that Open Source should be able to do the same.

Like Red Baron said the mods on my car were a bit of an unknown originally. Although turned out it had a vf35 turbo, pink injectors, walbro fuel pump and decat up pipe (and unresonated centre section). Still had original downpipe and cat though (that may be next)!

Another +1 for Duncan here. I live in Farnborough so it's very easy for me haha. From a stage 1 remap he gained 52 horses for me. He's looked after all the tweaks etc I've had done. Wouldn't go anywhere else.
Just make sure Charlie lets you go upstairs at the Rolling Road haha.
