Default Diy spray job advice

Question for anyone good at spray jobs, looking to spray my morrete lights myself and also a vortex generator. Anybody done a fairly decent job with rattle cans and also where is a good place to get the paints and do I just need primer, lacquer and the correct colour paint..

Obviously wet and dry paper.. What grades to use as well?

Paints4u.com

You can put your cars details so will get the proper colour.

I've had a few bits from them and always been quick delivery and good quality. The cans have a much better 'nib' on them which fans the spray out further so you get a better finish. Much better than a halfords can.

If it's for your morette surrounds you'll need primer (plastic primer if they are plastic and you are sanding them right down to bear plastic), colour and laquer. I did 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of colour and 3 coats of laquer.

Only tips I had were to practice on a similar material first and Go for lighter 'dusting' coats rather than loading on too much paint. Hope that helps!

What Steve said above,
You can flatten down the colour coat after the first "scratch coat" to check for any dodgy bits/bad primer marks etc. Then once your into doing your metallic you should not flatten it at all, with the lacquer build it up in light coats as per the above post and once you have about 3 or 4 coats of clear on you can leave to harden, (this can take a week to fully harden!)
Then flatten with some very fine wet and dry (1200 or above.. I use 2500), make sure it stays wet, and then polish up with a good compound, then polish, then wax.

Another tip would be not to spray too close, read the instructions about distance as this will effect the way the flecks in the paint land/stick up right or not.
