td05 turbo upgrade issue
Have just upgraded the turbo in my MY 95 WRX wagon from a td04 to td05.
Also changed the B3 ECU to a Z4 unit. Easy swap to do and all went well. The issue I have is that the boost (as measured by boost gauge) hasn't changed. It is still producing around 10 psi dropping to around 7. The same numbers as the td04/B3 combination. I haven't changed anything else so the MAP sensor and boost control solenoid are stock for the wagon. I presumed that these components would be the same as fitted to a sedan (where you would normally find the td05/Z4 combination). I intend on taking the car to a mapper - would the mapper be able to achieve the 12.7 psi boost target that you would normally expect from a td05/Z4 with the existing components or will I need to use upgraded ones? Any other suggestions also gratefully received! Cheers Andy ? |

Try tightening the actuator. It should half cover the waste gate post at rest and need a tug to get it on and the circlip fitted.
Are u sure its a z4 and not just a wagon ecu board in a z4 case. A mapper won't be able to change anything in those early ecu to correct what is clearly a fault somewhere. |

I'll check that out.
A Z4 board as far as I can tell. Warranty seal still in place and doesn't look like sticker on front has been tampered with. Is there anything on the board itself that would identify it? Thanks for the reply. |

I've cracked open 100's and never come across a warranty seal. Sounds like someone has been in their.
If its never been opened the loctite on the screws will still be holding tight. Sometimes the help of mole grips is required as the thread locking compound binds in the thread and the screws jam or snap. |
