Default British Drift Championship R4 2013 - Lydden Hill

The British Drift Championship dropped into Lydden a couple of weekends ago and, having never been to a BDC round before – and after missing its visit to Lydden earlier in the year – I thought I’d give it a go.

I took my camera with me, so you know whats coming next...

The BDC run three classes; Semi-Pro, Pro and Super Pro. I thought “Semi-Pro” was a polite way of saying “beginner”, but I was wrong: the Semi-Pro guys were making some seriously mental entries into the first set of corners.

Drift barge!

Door-to-door…

Boyzone “star” Shane Lynch running in the Super Pro class…

…in an 800 BHP twin turbo V8 S15.

This G35 was dubbed “the smoke machine”, for fairly obvious reasons…

Formula D guest driver Ryan Tuerck ran in Super Pro class in the Japspeed 2JZ IS200…

…I don’t think there was a single car in the Super Pro class that didn’t have an engine transplant (or in excess of 600 BHP).

Super Pro victory went to Phil Morrison in the Driftworks 1JZ powered R32 Skyline.

And a drift classic to finish with…

Have to say I found it a much more enjoyable event than the Drift AllStars rounds I’ve been to in the past. Although the AllStars events were good, they seemed disorganised and drawn out. The BDC had a lot more cars involved and didn’t waste any time getting them going or pausing between battles, which was a lot better for spectating.

Will definately be checking it out again next year!

Cool photos

They sure like their GoPro's don't they. But top prize has to go to this one - for mounting his DSLR on the roof

Car mounting DSLR's seems to be a drift thing, seen it a few times now. No way I'd lash my camera to a car and send it off round the track though!
