Default Players Classic - Goodwood

So, the weekend before last the Players Classic show made its debut at Goodwood.

Have to honest and say I wasn’t actually that excited for this show. For starters I think naming a car show “Players” is massively pretentious and an awful lot of the photos from previous events included overly-stanced VAG cars; a look that really doesn’t do anything for me.

So why did I go then? Well the Players Classic show marked the first stop for the Speedhunters Drift Team on their mini European Tour. The “drift team” only actually consisted of two cars, but they were both pretty special. More on them later on…

As it turns out – and despite there being a number of cars that didn’t float my boat – there were actually quite a few eye-catching motors in attendance. Here are a few of my faves:

Drift barge!

My personal pick of the cars in the paddock:

Matching iron for an ironing board spoiler!

Picture doesn’t show it, but this Porsche had a matt white finish. Have to say it looked rather good.

Fastest bit of the Aston.

JPS coloured Exige: like!

Saved the best for last; the Speedhunters “Drift Team”…

…consisting of Fredric Aasbo in his 600+ BHP 2JZ powered GT86 (the “X86”)…

…and “Mad” Mike Whiddett in his 700+ BHP 20B powered RX8 (the “BADBUL”).

Slightly wider than standard front track on the X86…

Aasbo and Mike hitting the track…

Both cars looked the nuts (and both were getting seriously sideways) but, of the two, Mad Mikes RX8 was the standout car for me. Not only did it look mean…

…but it sounded savage. The noise was more like a bike engine when it was revved (which was a lot) and it was unbelievably loud (so much so that the first drift session was flagged due to the excessive noise!)

My only real complaint is that their drift sessions were too infrequent and no one seemed able to tell us exactly when they were happening, so there was a lot of standing around waiting (apologies to the other half for that!).

Niggles aside though (and not quite so sure I’d be saying it if Speedhunters hadn’t been there) but definitely worth the drive to Goodwood!

Superb photos Steve, you're getting rather good at this

Not sure about the rediculously wide track on the drift cars, but it must be function over form!

Cheers guys!

Drift shots didn't come out quite as well as I was hoping, but some of the them are OK.

I believe its done to allow enough clearance for the front wheels on maximum lock...
