Brembo Calipers on Bugeye
Quick question as can't find an answer easily elsewhere.
I have got some Brembo calipers to fit to my WRX Bugeye Wagon. I was just going to order new mounting bolts, but when I looked I noticed that the later model new age's (2005+) have a tie/support bracket for the caliper mounting that can be used with longer bolts. Does anyone know if these fit onto bugeye WRX and has anyone tried? I think they are supposed to resist caliper flex under heavy use. Also I need to get some new discs and pads for impending track days, can anyone recommend a cheapish but good setup? I am thinking standard discs with performance friction/pagid blue pads? unfortunately my budget isn't great at the moment and I would ideally go for 2 piece discs with good pads, but too much needs doing to car.

Front or rears? Both?
Fronts will bolt straight on, you might have to take the disk plates off as the larger brembo size disc wont fit on otherwise. Backs...slightly harder, you need larger shoes for the handbrake, Terry did his, and had a few issues at first.

only doing the fronts at the moment. will do backs if I get round to fitting 6 speed box in, as i'll just replace the back end.
Was looking at trying to replace backing plates with STI ones, but looking at parts catalogue I am getting conflicting info as to if the wrx ones will fit or not, which I wouldn't expect to, and if they can be swapped without having to take everything completely apart. I may go and see Saj and see what he thinks.

Fronts are nice and easy. When I did mine in the past I bent the backing plates to fit, but they just as easily can be removed. For the rear discs you will need modified handbrake shoes that are thicker. These are pretty reasonable and can be bought from Godspeed and AS Performance may also do them. Easy job again for the rears bit the old discs can be fiddly to get off as you need to wind in the old shoes to remove the disc.

Not sure what those brackets would do that you refer too.
There would be very little flex in that direction as all the force is in the rotational direction. I discussed things like this with a guy I know that does alot of brake modifications for Mk1 and Mk2 rally Escorts. We were talking about the brackets I needed to make for the rear Brembo's (see thread above). He helped me conclude that the brackets don't need to be that thick as all the forces are in the other direction. The standard mounting for the rears is just a bit of bent 2-3mm steel plate. As you've already noticed though, you will need specific bolts for the Front Brembo's as they use a different pitch thread compared to the steel 4-pots. |

cheers, i won't bother with brackets on front, i since read they might be to prevent harmonic vibration.
as mention earlier, not doing rears until diff and gearbox get done, in which case i will swap rear axels.

the harmonic brackets you have seen are generally fited to the rears only and not required per se...............
as a MAJOR PFC and PAGID distributor we can help you out with pricing easy enough
