How are you guys making those animated avatars?
I want one. How do you do it?
If someone has the skills can they make me one from the bit at 40 - 42 seconds in this video? The bit where Xzibit is rapping to the ocean. |

Well, I made it, but it's too large in terms of file size for an avatar |

You can go here and see the selection... view each one individually as the page loads the data.... more data means slower speeds...
Unfortunately the source data is limited and none of them actually loop seamlessly.... sorry. http://s721.beta.photobucket.com/use...0-%20Paparazzi

There's several ways to do it and each to there own.
First I take the video file and get it into a format that GIF Animator will take. My video PC is packed away so on my sh!tty lappy, I take the Video and chop it up to small lengths each side of the bit I want. VLC actually has a record function so if the format is ok with GA it saves a bit of time. VLC actually has a frame by frame function and will loop too!! If the video format is no good, I try to use Sorenson Squeeze which is a web authoring tool. Using this I chop up and recode the video. Then import to Gif Animator and chop out the junk each end of the usable frames. Then frame durations are edittable and have to be the correct time to display ok on the web. This is not the same display time as on the computer so a bit of fiddling require. I find that chopping out every other frame in the sequence give a better "length" of animation and the frame duration can be used to accommodate any jerkyness. trim the edges of the frame to the minimum, top, bottom, left and right, then resize to maximum allowable - SES is 200² and do save as's to see the file size. SES is 488kb, so calculate the frame file size as a fraction of the actual file size, calculate the no frames fits into 488kb, do some save as's to see which speed works best and heyyyyy.. Sounds very complicated, but once I have the video file, it might only take 5 minutes on my crappy lappy... A dedicated video PC will process quicker.

Personnaly, I think the trick is to get it to look seemless, so take all the frames, duplicate them to the end, mirror them, remove the last one as it's the same as the first, take out one of the centre frames as they are the same too, and it looks like a loop.
